Insulation caps for unused inlets (6 pcs) are original Vaillant accessories (code 0020243643) designed for additional sealing and insulation of free, unused connecting nozzles on buffer (accumulation) tanks of the series Vaillant VPS R 100/1 M and VPS R 200/1 B. The package contains 6 caps with an insulation thickness of approximately 73 mm, which can be easily mounted directly onto G 1½" threaded nozzles if not all connecting points of the tank are used in a given installation.
What these caps are used for
Buffer tanks Vaillant VPS R 100/1 M and VPS R 200/1 B typically have 8 G 1½" connecting nozzles on the shell, allowing flexible connection to various hydraulic schemes - single-zone and multi-zone systems, combination with a heat pump, or even cooling. However, in a standard installation, it is not necessary to use all nozzles at once. An unused nozzle without an insulation cap represents a thermal bridge - heat from the stored water escapes through the non-insulated metal connection into the machine room or technical room, increasing the tank's heat losses and reducing the actual efficiency of the entire heating or hot water system.
Insulation caps eliminate this loss - they cover and insulate the free nozzle with the same (or comparable) insulation thickness as the tank shell itself, maintaining a consistent thermal insulation envelope of the vessel. The caps are compatible exclusively with standard G 1½" nozzles on these two tank models. When ordering a heat pump with a buffer tank, we recommend planning the hydraulic connection scheme in advance (number of used inlets/outs, possible future expansion with a second heating zone, solar circuit, etc.) - based on this, it will be determined how many nozzles will remain free and how many insulation caps will be needed.
Installation
The installation is simple and can be handled by any heating engineer or installation company during the standard installation of the tank:
- Check which of the G 1½" connecting nozzles on the tank shell remain unused in the given hydraulic scheme.
- Ensure that the nozzle is properly sealed with a suitable plug/stopper from the perspective of pressure tightness (the insulation cap itself does not replace the pressure sealing of the thread, only thermally insulates it).
- Mount the insulation cap onto the nozzle so that it sits on the tank shell and smoothly continues the existing tank insulation.
- Check that the cap is firmly in place and does not loosen - it could fall off during vibrations or handling in the technical room.
The installation can be carried out at any time during or after the tank installation, i.e., even retroactively, if the originally planned connection has changed and some nozzle is no longer used.
