Pressure vessels (expansion tanks) compensate for pressure changes in a heating or water distribution system caused by thermal expansion – various volumes and designs according to the type of system.

Pressure Vessels 

Pressure vessels serve as reservoirs for pumped water for home water systems and industrial pumping stations. They can be paired with all types of pumps, that do not exceed the maximum working overpressure of the pressure vessel.  

Pressure vessels combined with pumps help increase the water pressure in the system and thereby help extend the lifespan of the whole system, primarily the lifespan of the pump itself. Inside the vessel there is a rubber bladder, which forms the reserve of pumped water. The air balancing the pressure in the system is around the rubber bladder.

By material used:

  • Steel pressure vessels - are made of quality steel sheet and their main use is in households, irrigation systems and agriculture. 
  • Galvanized pressure vessels ensure a smooth water supply, mostly from your own well. 
  • Stainless steel pressure vessels  can be used anywhere contact with drinking water is expected.

By bladder:

  • Pressure vessels with bladder - in the pressure vessel there is no contact between water and the vessel walls, so there is no risk of damage from internal corrosion. The bladder divides the interior of the pressure tank into two parts. The space between the bladder and the vessel walls is always pressurized. The bladder serves as a water reservoir and is replaceable. 
  • Pressure vessels without bladder - in the pressure vessel the water and air are not separated from each other, so the pressure must be topped up more often than in the case of a tank with a diaphragm or bladder.

By construction:

  • Horizontal pressure vessels - are ideal for use with home water systems. 
  • Vertical pressure vessels - are used in wells.

Rubber bladder and its care: The rubber bladder stretches with use and thus wears out. Its wear depends not only on the intensity of use, but also on the pre-inflated counter-pressure in the tank. If this pressure is not sufficient, more intense friction of the bladder against the vessel wall occurs. It should therefore be checked regularly and topped up if necessary.

  • What is the difference between a pressure vessel with and without a bladder? In a vessel with a bladder, the water is not in direct contact with the vessel walls, which prevents internal corrosion; in a vessel without a bladder, the air pressure must be topped up more often.
  • How often should the rubber bladder be checked? Regularly - its lifespan depends on the intensity of use and on correctly pre-inflated counter-pressure in the tank.
  • What type of pressure vessel should be chosen for a well? Vertical pressure vessels are suitable for installation in wells, horizontal ones are more suitable for home water systems.
