Backup power supplies for boilers and central heating circulation pumps (APC and Lumar)
A backup power supply for gas boilers and circulation pumps should already be a standard part of every boiler room. First of all, they protect the boiler, the controller and the circulation pump against power surges, so they provide surge protection, and most importantly they supply enough electricity to keep the system running for several hours during a power outage. For boilers running on wood or other solid fuel, this function is very important. Since wood or coal keeps burning in the boiler for a long time and cannot simply be shut off, it keeps heating the boiler, and if the circulation pump stops, the boiler can overheat within a few minutes. High temperature in the boiler can cause welds to crack or even start a fire in the boiler's outer insulation. A backup power supply for the circulation pump keeps powering the controller or the circulation pump and so prevents this problem. Some backup power supplies also have a loud alarm function in the event of a power outage. Battery operation can last several hours, depending on the number of connected loads and the output of the unit. All backup power supplies include surge protection and one or two grounded electrical sockets.
