Plastic-aluminium, polybutylene and other pipes and tubes for underfloor heating

Pipes suitable for underfloor heating distribution. Such pipes or tubes must include an oxygen barrier, which prevents oxygen molecules from penetrating into the heating circuit and later causing corrosion of the material. The oxygen barrier is usually formed by aluminium, or by a special EVOH barrier in the case of polybutylene pipe. The pipe must be sufficiently resistant to external influences that may occur during concreting and other construction work.

Underfloor heating pipes are laid into system boards or, in other words, polystyrene, which insulates the floor and reflects heat upward. Underfloor heating pipe is laid at set intervals, most often in a 30 cm grid. Tubes can also be laid using a so-called fixing rail or on a grid mat. Neither of these two methods offers the same advantages as underfloor heating polystyrene

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Which pipe is most suitable for underfloor heating? Most often multilayer (Pex-Al-Pex) or PEX pipe with an oxygen barrier, usually in a diameter of 16-20 mm.
  • What pipe diameter should I choose for a family house? For standard underfloor heating in a family house, a diameter of 16 or 18 mm is most commonly used; larger diameters are chosen for larger areas or longer circuits.
  • Is an oxygen barrier necessary for underfloor heating? Yes, it protects the metal parts of the heating system (boiler, pump, fittings) against corrosion caused by oxygen penetrating through the pipe wall.
