Vaillant – Wall bracket for mounting the outdoor unit on the wall, for insulated façade (3, 5 and 7 kW)

Original wall bracket from Vaillant designed for direct mounting of the aroTHERM heat pump outdoor unit on the external wall of a house with an external thermal insulation composite system (ETICS/WDVS). This version has been specifically developed to transfer the load of the unit through the layer of external thermal insulation directly into the load-bearing masonry, without the risk of damaging or compressing the insulation system and without creating a thermal bridge at the anchoring point.

Application and limitations

The bracket is intended exclusively for the smaller power ranges of the aroTHERM outdoor units (typically 3, 5 and 7 kW, i.e. the VWL 35, VWL 55 and VWL 75 ranges in the /8.1 A, /6 A and /5 AS versions), where the weight of the unit and the bending moment on the bracket are within the declared load capacity of the solution. For higher power units (VWL 105, 125, 155 and some /3 and /2 ranges), the manufacturer does not allow the use of this bracket – in such cases, a free installation on the ground/roof (e.g. on a base, elevated foundation) or another type of mounting is required. The bracket is also intended only for insulated façades with a thickness of the thermal insulation layer (WDVS) up to 16 cm; for non-insulated walls, a separate version is available (see our product "Bracket for non-insulated façade").

Installation

Installation requires special anchoring elements and adhesive/anchoring system (the manufacturer recommends a system type HIT-HY 170 or equivalent chemical anchoring system with the appropriate drilling and application tools) due to the need to anchor through the thermal insulation layer. Before installation, it is essential to verify the sufficient load-bearing capacity and condition of the base masonry (not lightweight partition walls without verified load capacity) and to follow the anchoring procedure according to the Vaillant installation instructions, including the specified spacing and anchoring depth. Installation must be carried out only by a qualified person/service company authorized for heat pump installation.

Advantages of wall mounting

Compared to a free installation on the ground, the wall bracket saves space on the plot, the unit is elevated above the ground (reducing the risk of snow accumulation and damage during mowing/garden maintenance) and shortens the pipe route to the transition into the house. The disadvantage is the higher demand on the quality and load-bearing capacity of the base wall and the need to address acoustic isolation more carefully, as the wall can transmit vibrations further into the building structure than a free-standing base.

Frequently asked questions

How can I determine if my façade is "insulated" in the context of this bracket? This refers to a façade with a contact insulation system (polystyrene, mineral wool, etc.) up to a thickness of 16 cm on the load-bearing masonry. For thicker insulation or other types of cladding, consult the installation company about the suitability of the solution.

Can I use the bracket on a timber frame house? The anchoring is designed for masonry/concrete load-bearing structures; for timber frame houses, an individual assessment by a structural engineer or the timber house manufacturer is necessary.

Is the anchoring material included in the delivery? The bracket includes its own fastening system; specialized chemical anchors (e.g. HIT-HY 170) are usually a separate consumable material depending on the type of base, supplied by the installation company.

Operational and service recommendations

For wall mounting, we recommend checking the tightening of the bracket's anchoring elements during the annual service inspection (especially after the first heating season, when chemical anchors tend to settle) and the condition of the rubber damping feet. In case of visible cracks around the anchoring points in the plaster/façade, contact the installation company without delay – this may indicate insufficient load-bearing capacity of the base.

Warranty and professional installation

This product is covered by a 24-month warranty. Given that it is a load-bearing element securing the entire outdoor unit (weighing several kilograms, additionally loaded with vibrations during operation), we strongly recommend that installation is carried out exclusively by a certified service company according to the current installation instructions, including the use of the prescribed type of chemical anchor corresponding to the material and condition of the base wall.

Shipping

The product is compact and shipped as a regular parcel; we recommend ordering it together with the outdoor unit and the installation kit for joint installation.

Comparison of wall and free installation

The decision between a wall bracket and a free installation on a base or elevated foundation depends on several factors that should be discussed with the installation company already during the planning phase:

  • Available space on the plot – in the case of small plots or tight building arrangements, the wall bracket saves valuable space that can be used, for example, for a terrace or garden bed.
  • Load-bearing capacity and material of the wall – a masonry or concrete structure with verified load-bearing capacity is a prerequisite for safe anchoring; in case of doubts (thin partitions, damaged masonry, timber frame house), a free installation is more suitable.
  • Risk of vibration transmission into living areas – in the case of wall mounting near a living room or lounge, vibrations can be transmitted more intensively through the masonry than with a free-standing unit, so the quality of the damping elements of the bracket is particularly important in this case.
  • Length of the pipe route to the house – wall mounting usually shortens the pipe routing, which reduces heat losses and material costs.

In practice, wall brackets are most commonly used in new buildings with a well-planned location of the technical part of the façade, while in renovations or with uncertain load-bearing capacity of the existing wall, a free installation is more often chosen.

Installation procedure step by step

  1. Verify the load-bearing capacity and thickness of the insulated façade (WDVS) at the planned anchoring location and mark the exact position of the bracket according to the project.
  2. Drill holes for the anchoring elements with sufficient overhang through the thermal insulation layer into the load-bearing masonry.
  3. Apply the prescribed chemical anchoring system (e.g. type HIT-HY 170) according to the manufacturer's instructions and allow it to cure for the specified time.
  4. Mount and tighten the bracket, check its horizontal and vertical alignment.
  5. Mount the outdoor unit on the bracket and secure it according to the installation instructions.
  6. Install the wall-through connection kit, pipe routing, electrical installation and condensate drain, then put the unit into operation.
