Vaillant – Condensate Drain Adapter
Original connecting adapter from Vaillant for secure connection of an external condensate drain hose to the outdoor unit of the aroTHERM Split plus heat pump, or in combination with an external pipe heating cable (so-called "companion heating" of the condensate drain route).
Purpose
The adapter serves as a transitional/connecting element between the condensate outlet on the outdoor unit and an external drain hose or pipe leading to a safe discharge point (sewage, rainwater drainage). It ensures a tight and mechanically stable connection with a defined outlet diameter that allows further connection of standard drain system components or third-party heating cables from specialized manufacturers (e.g., systems of the Raychem type).

When is the adapter needed
The adapter is used when it is necessary to connect an external (outside the unit) hose for condensate drainage together with an external companion heating cable – typically in installations where a longer condensate drainage route runs through areas exposed to frost and the complete original heated set is not used (see our products "Condensate Drain Heating 1.5 m"). Without external companion heating, the adapter may be used only in locations/sections of the route that are not exposed to the risk of freezing.
Installation
The adapter is mounted on the condensate outlet collar of the outdoor unit and secured according to the installation instructions. The selected type of drain hose/pipe is then connected to the output side of the adapter, or alternatively, the companion heating cable from a third party (e.g., Raychem) is passed through and secured according to its own installation instructions. We recommend that the installation be carried out by a service company that is also responsible for the complete connection of the outdoor unit.
Common Questions
Can I use the adapter without a companion heating cable? Yes, in locations/sections outside the risk of freezing, the adapter can be used only as a mechanical connection to an external drain hose.
Is the adapter compatible with other unit models besides Split plus? The adapter is developed for the aroTHERM Split plus series (x5/8.2 AS S2); for other series, we recommend verifying the compatibility of the condensate outlet before ordering.
Is it necessary to purchase a gasket separately? The adapter is delivered with the necessary gasket for proper installation on the unit's outlet.
Operational and Service Recommendations
We recommend checking the tightness of the adapter and the condition of the connected external hose/heating cable during the annual service inspection. When replacing or modifying the condensate drainage route, we always recommend using the original adapter to ensure guaranteed flow and tightness of the connection corresponding to the unit model.

Why is protection against condensate freezing important in our climatic conditions
Slovakia belongs to a climatic zone with common winter frosts, and precisely during the strongest frost periods (when the need for heat from the heat pump is highest), the outdoor unit produces the most condensate during defrosting cycles. If the condensate drainage route is not protected against freezing (by a heating cable or sufficient slope below the freezing point), a typical problem occurs: the condensate in the pipe freezes, water starts to accumulate back toward the unit, ice forms in the collection tray, and dangerous black ice forms around the unit, which is a risk especially when walking near the unit (e.g., during service access).
Long-term repeated freezing of condensate can ultimately lead to mechanical damage to the collection tray due to the expansion of freezing water, which represents an expensive repair outside of standard warranty (if the cause is proven to be an improperly designed condensate drainage). For this reason, we recommend that the original heated condensate drainage route be considered standard, not optional, in installations in our climatic conditions as part of a complete and professionally implemented heat pump installation.
Installation Procedure Step by Step
- Mount the adapter on the condensate outlet collar of the outdoor unit and secure it according to the installation instructions.
- Connect the selected drain hose/pipe to the output side of the adapter.
- If the solution includes third-party companion heating, pass through and secure the heating cable according to its own installation instructions.
- Check the tightness of the entire connection and protect the route from mechanical damage.
- Put the condensate drainage into operation and verify its functionality during a simulated water discharge.
