Cutting the screen

Before purchasing the screen, it is advisable to measure your balcony or fence so that you don't buy unnecessarily more material (or you can return it to us - even up to 100 years later).

In most cases, you will need to shorten or adjust the mat in some way. Ordinary office scissors or a utility knife will be helpful for this. When cutting, it is recommended to use a level or a board to ensure the cut is completely straight. Scissors can be used for straight cuts as well as for cutting arcs or other shapes. Even though the mat is made (welded) from horizontal and vertical woven artificial rattan strips 19 mm wide, the screen will not fray after cutting, nor will it gradually unravel.

Installing the screen

Now it's time to install the screen on the railing, fence or balcony. It is best to install it in warmer weather, as the material becomes more pliable and less prone to splitting. Attachment varies depending on the options the surface offers, but the most common installation method is to attach the mat using cable ties.

On the windward side, place the ties more densely - approximately 15-20 cm apart, on the leeward side a spacing of 30-50 cm between individual ties is sufficient. Since the screen is made of several woven strips that have small gaps between them, the cable tie can be threaded anywhere across the surface of the screen and it is not necessary to punch holes in it. Neighbour's tip: When purchasing cable ties, try to match the colour of the screen and the cable tie as closely as possible for a perfect design. Cable ties can be bought in the traditional black colour, as well as in other colour variants. Just like with the screen, think in advance about the minimum length of tie you will need (e.g. based on the circumference of the post or railing).

Easy maintenance

The LEGI balcony screen is easy to use and easy to maintain. To clean the screen from ordinary dust, all you need is to wash it with lukewarm water mixed with a bit of washing-up liquid, for example Jar. Since the surface of the screen is very realistic, pollen or other dirt may also settle between the individual rattan strips. Here, an ordinary dish sponge or brush will serve you best for cleaning. If you have the screen located in the garden, you can use a hose or pressure washer to rinse it.

Artificial rattan

The screen is made of shape- and colour-stable 100% recyclable polyethylene (also known as synthetic rattan, polyrattan or technorattan) using a technology that welds the individual fibres together, which ensures that the material does not fray when shaped. The material is resistant to UV radiation, frost, mould, dirt and water. It has good tensile strength and can be bent and cut into the desired shape in any way. Artificial rattan is a double-sided, easy-to-wash material, suitable for both outdoor and indoor use. Unlike natural rattan, artificial rattan does not show the effects of time, which most commonly manifest in natural rattan as peeling and splitting.

Artificial rattan is of course safe for health, so there is no need to worry about the effects of harmful substances on your health. The material is also fully recyclable and thus leaves no impact on the environment. Thanks to all these properties, it boasts a very long lifespan of up to 20 years.
