Cutting the screen

Before purchasing the screen, it is advisable to measure your balcony or fence so that you don't buy unnecessarily more material (or you can return it to us - within as much as 100 years).

In most cases, you will need to shorten or adjust the mat in some way. Ordinary office scissors or a utility knife will do the job. When cutting, it is recommended to use a spirit level or a board to ensure a perfectly straight cut. Scissors can be used for both straight cuts and cutting out curves or other shapes. Even though the mat is composed (welded) of horizontal and vertical woven artificial rattan strips 19 mm wide, the screen does not fray after cutting, nor does it gradually unravel.

Installing the screen

Now it's time to install the screen on the railing, fence or balcony. Ideally, install it in warmer weather, as the material becomes more pliable and less prone to splitting. The fixing method varies depending on the options offered by the surface, but the most common way of installation is attaching the mat using cable ties.

On the windward side, place the ties more densely - approximately 15-20 cm apart, on the leeward side a spacing of 30-50 cm between individual ties is sufficient. Since the screen is made up of several woven strips with small gaps between them, the cable tie can be threaded through anywhere across the entire surface of the screen, and there is no need to perforate it. Neighbor's tip: When buying cable ties, try to match the color of the screen and the cable tie as closely as possible for a perfect design. Cable ties can be purchased in traditional black, as well as in other color variants. As with the screen, plan in advance for the ties the minimum length you will need (e.g. based on the circumference of the post or railing).

Easy maintenance

The LEGI balcony screen is easy to use and maintain. To clean the screen from ordinary dust, washing with lukewarm water mixed with a washing-up liquid, such as dish soap, is sufficient. Since the surface of the screen is very realistic, pollen or other impurities may settle between the individual rattan strips as well. An ordinary dish sponge or brush will work best here for cleaning. If you have the screen placed in the garden, you can use a hose or pressure washer for rinsing.

Artificial rattan

The screen is made of shape- and color-stable 100% recyclable polyethylene (also called synthetic rattan, polyrattan or techno-rattan) using a technology of welding individual fibers together, which ensures the material does not fray when shaped. The material is resistant to UV radiation, frost, mold, dirt and water. It has high tensile strength and can be bent and cut into any desired shape. Artificial rattan is a double-sided, easy-to-wash material, suitable for both outdoor and indoor use. Unlike natural rattan, artificial rattan does not show signs of aging, which most commonly manifests in natural rattan through peeling and splitting.

Artificial rattan is of course safe for health, so there is no need to worry about the effect of harmful substances on your health. In addition, the material is fully recyclable, leaving no impact on the environment. Thanks to all these properties, it stands out with a very long lifespan of up to 20 years.
