Cutting the screen

Before purchasing the screen, it is advisable to measure your balcony or fence so you don't buy unnecessarily more material than needed (or you can return it to us - even up to 100 years later).

In most cases, you will need to shorten or adjust the mat in some way. Ordinary office scissors or a utility knife will work well for this. When cutting, it is recommended to use a level or a board to ensure a completely straight cut. Scissors can be used both for straight cuts and for cutting arcs or other shapes. Even though the mat is composed (welded) of horizontal and vertical woven synthetic rattan strips 19 mm wide, the screen does not fray or gradually unravel after cutting.

Installing the screen

Now it's time to install the screen on the railing, fence or balcony. Ideally, install it in warmer weather, as the material becomes more pliable and less prone to splitting. Attachment varies depending on the options the base offers, but the most common installation method is to attach the mat using cable ties.

On the windward side, place the ties more densely - approx. 15-20 cm apart, while on the leeward side, a spacing of 30-50 cm between individual ties is sufficient. Since the screen is made up of several woven strips with small gaps between them, the cable tie can be threaded through anywhere across the entire surface of the screen, and there is no need to puncture it. If the base of the screen is made of wood or an OSB board, you can use an upholstery stapler or screws and nails for attachment. You can find detailed instructions at this link.

Neighbor's tip: When buying cable ties, try to match the color of the screen and the cable tie as closely as possible for a perfect design. Cable ties can be purchased in the traditional black color, as well as in other color variants. As with the screen, also think in advance about the minimum length of tie you will need (e.g. according to the circumference of the post or railing).

Low-maintenance

The LEGI balcony screen is easy to use and maintain. To clean the screen from ordinary dust, simply wash it with lukewarm water mixed with a washing-up liquid, for example dish soap. Since the surface of the screen is very realistic, pollen or other impurities can also settle between the individual rattan strips. Here, an ordinary dish sponge or brush will be the most useful for cleaning. If you have the screen placed in the garden, you can use a hose or a pressure washer for rinsing.

Synthetic rattan

The screen is made of shape- and color-stable 100% recyclable polyethylene (also known as synthetic rattan, polyrattan or technorattan) using a technology that welds individual fibers together, ensuring the material does not fray during shaping. The material is resistant to UV radiation, frost, mold, dirt and water. It is tensile-strong and can be bent and cut into the desired shape as needed. Synthetic rattan is a double-sided, easily washable material, suitable for both outdoor and indoor use. Unlike natural rattan, synthetic rattan does not show signs of aging, which is most often manifested in natural rattan by peeling and splitting.

Synthetic rattan is of course health-safe, so there is no need to worry about the effects of harmful substances on your health. The material is also fully recyclable, so it leaves no negative impact on the environment. Thanks to all these properties, it stands out with a very long lifespan of up to 20 years.
