Product detailed description
Buderus is one of the oldest and most respected heating technology brands in Europe – its manufacturing tradition dates back to 1731. Today, Buderus is part of the Bosch Thermotechnik group, meaning that every product is backed by German engineering, strict quality control and decades of experience in developing heat sources, storage tanks and control technology. Thanks to this, customers can be confident that they are investing in a solution designed for long-term, reliable operation.
Buderus Logalux SM310 Solar Combi Storage Tank
The Buderus Set SM310, white is a solar combined (bivalent) storage tank with a capacity of 300 litres, designed for preparing domestic hot water from two heat sources simultaneously – solar collectors and a gas or other boiler. The designation "SM" stands for Solar Modul: the tank has two separate heat exchangers – the lower, larger exchanger is connected to the solar circuit and is used for priority heating of water by solar energy, while the upper exchanger is connected to the boiler and reheats the water whenever solar energy is not sufficient to cover the household's needs. Thanks to this arrangement, the tank maximizes the use of solar energy while guaranteeing that hot water is available in any weather.
The white version has a smooth white casing made of durable plastic, which blends visually into most boiler rooms and utility rooms. The inner tank is enamelled using Duoclean MKT technology with a protective magnesium anode against corrosion, and thermal insulation made of rigid PU foam with a thickness of approximately 55–60 mm significantly reduces heat losses while water stands in the tank.
What's Included in the Set
The set includes the storage tank itself and all the accessories needed to connect it to the solar circuit:
- Logalux SM310.5 E W-B (code 8732928457, 1 pc)
- Sensor Set, RD 6.0 3000 10K (code 7735502288, 1 pc)
- THERMOSTATIC DHW MIXING VALVE (code 7735600273, 1 pc)
- Logafix expansion vessel MAG Solar, 25l, 6 bar (code 7747202343, 1 pc)
- Expansion vessel bracket MB2 (code 12222017, 1 pc)
The RD temperature sensor measures the water temperature in the tank for controlling the solar pump, while the thermostatic DHW mixing valve protects the household from scalding by automatically mixing in cold water if the temperature in the tank (for example, in case of excess solar energy) rises above a safe limit. The Logafix expansion vessel with a capacity of 25 litres and a pressure of 6 bar, together with the MB2 bracket, form a safety element of the solar circuit that compensates for volume changes of the heat-transfer fluid as it heats up.
How to Choose the Right Storage Tank Size
The SM310 tank with a capacity of 300 litres is suitable for households of 4 to 6 people with typical hot water consumption, or for smaller households that want a sufficient reserve for periods of weaker sunshine. When choosing the size of a solar storage tank, it is recommended to allow for approximately 50–80 litres of capacity per person, while also matching the size of the solar collector area – for combined DHW heating and space heating support, 1.2–1.5 m² of collector area per 100 litres of tank capacity is generally recommended. Precise sizing should always be confirmed by a designer or experienced installer based on the specific consumption and location.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can the SM310 tank be connected to any boiler?
Yes, the upper exchanger is universal and can be connected to a gas, electric or other heat source, not only to Buderus products.
What does the designation E W-B mean in the tank code?
The designation specifies a particular version of the tank (e.g. the position of the connections and the design of the casing); functionally it is the same type of SM310.5 tank, differing only in construction details depending on the current production series.
Is it necessary to purchase a solar station (pump group) separately?
Yes, this set includes the storage tank and safety/connection components; the solar pump station itself (e.g. Logasol KS0110) must be ordered separately.
What is the difference between the white and silver versions?
It is the same SM310.5 tank, differing only in the colour of the outer casing – the technical parameters, exchangers and capacity are identical.
Can the tank be used without solar collectors?
Yes, the tank can be operated temporarily or permanently using only the boiler-side reheating via the upper exchanger; the solar circuit can be added later.
Is professional installation required?
Yes, connection to the solar circuit and heat source, as well as inspection of the pressure vessel, must be carried out by a qualified technician authorised to install pressure vessels and gas/heating equipment.
Installation and Operation
Installation of the storage tank and its connection to the heating or solar circuit may only be carried out by a qualified person with the appropriate authorisation – this involves working with hot water, gas or electrical systems as well as pressure vessels, where incorrect installation can endanger operational safety and void the warranty. Before installation, we recommend checking that there is sufficient space at the installation site for service access (especially to the exchangers, anode and sensors), that the floor can bear the weight of the filled tank, and that drainage of any water from the safety valve is ensured.
After connection, the tank must be filled, vented and the control technology (sensors, or solar circuit control) set according to the project documentation and manufacturer's instructions. Regular servicing – checking the anode, tightness, pressure in the expansion vessel and function of the safety valve – extends the tank's service life and reduces the risk of unexpected failure.
Warranty and Service
Buderus products are generally covered by a 2-year statutory warranty. When the appliance is registered via the official Buderus portal and commissioned by an authorised service technician, it is usually possible to obtain an extended warranty on the tank's heat exchanger under standard conditions – we recommend verifying the exact conditions and length of the extended warranty directly during product registration or with an authorised Buderus service partner. The Buderus service network in Slovakia is extensive, spare parts are readily available, and if the installation and maintenance instructions are followed, you can expect years of trouble-free operation from the storage tank.
