A coupling in piping systems is a component used to connect two pipe sections or pipes. The main functions of a pipe coupling include:

Pipe Fittings: Fittings are used to connect two pipes that may have the same or different diameters. This makes it possible to extend the pipeline or create a connection between different parts of the pipeline system.

Ensuring a tight joint: Joints have structural elements or seals that ensure that the joint is tight and does not leak liquid or gas. This minimizes the risk of leaks.

Fixing the pipes: The joints also keep the pipes in a firm and stable position. This is important to prevent movement or vibration that could damage the pipe.

Dismantability: Most couplings are designed to allow disassembly, which is useful for pipe maintenance or replacement.

There are several different types of couplings that are used in piping systems, including:

Butt Coupling: Used to join two ends of pipe of the same diameter.

Disconnecting coupling: Used to separate two pipe sections for disassembly or maintenance purposes.

Reducing Coupling: Used to join pipe sections of different diameters, with the smaller pipe diameter placed inside the larger one.

Double Coupling: Allows two pipe segments to be joined side by side, which can be useful in certain applications.

Coupling with gasket: It has an integrated gasket (often rubber) that ensures a tight connection between the pipes without the need for additional sealing materials.

The type of coupling used in a piping system depends on the specific needs and specifications of the system. It is important to choose the right coupling to achieve reliable and safe pipeline operation.
