Waterproofing

Waterproofing is a technique used to ensure that a material is impervious to water, moisture and other liquid agents. Its purpose is to prevent the penetration of water into the structure of the building, which can cause damage to materials, corrosion and the formation of mold and rot. Waterproofing is mainly used in areas where there is high humidity or there is a risk of contact with water, such as foundations, underground structures, bathrooms, terraces, etc.

Types of waterproofing:

Foil waterproofing: A plastic foil is used, which is attached to the surface of the structure. It can be polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC or other plastic. This type of waterproofing is often used in foundations and underground spaces.

Liquid waterproofing: Liquid waterproofing materials are applied to the surface of the structure and form an impermeable layer after drying. They can be asphalt emulsions, polymer liquids or silicone primers. Liquid waterproofing is suitable for various surfaces, including concrete, wood and metals.

Strips and sealants: Strips of elastic materials or self-adhesive strips are placed over joints and joints to prevent water penetration. Sealants are used to seal joints between different materials.

Waterproofing sheets: These sheets can be made of various materials, including asphalt impregnated sheets, polymer sheets or rubber sheets. They are used in the construction of stressed waterproofing, for example on terraces and roofs.

Injection waterproofing: This technique involves injecting special hydrophobic preparations into the structure. These preparations ensure the creation of an impermeable barrier in pores and cracks.

Cold waterproofing: Its principle consists in applying waterproofing materials without using hot sources, such as heating gas or flame.

Thermofusion: Used with plastic materials such as PVC to create an impermeable joint using heat.

Waterproofing is a critical part of construction work that helps protect structures from water and moisture and ensures the long life of buildings and their structural elements.
