GrassRoll Extra Grass Reinforcement Mat 2x15m up to 7.5t
Code: OZ_006012DProduct detailed description
Professional solution for demanding parking
The GrassRoll Extra grass reinforcement mat 7.5t in size 2x15m is the most durable type in our range. With a profile thickness of 14.5 mm and an area weight of 2 kg/m², it is designed for surfaces with regular traffic. It is suitable for parking lots, driveways to houses, or frequently visited grassy areas where ordinary mesh cannot cope.
This system ensures the natural green look of the landscape while offering sufficient load capacity for both passenger and commercial vehicles, without the need for heavy construction work or concreting.

Why choose GrassRoll Extra?
GrassRoll Extra is not just an ordinary mesh. It is an engineered system combining high strength with easy handling. Reasons why it is the best choice for your parking area:
- Extreme load capacity up to 7.5 tons: Handles not only passenger cars but also heavier SUVs and vans (per axle load).
- No excavation or digging required: Save on earthworks – it is installed directly onto the existing lawn.
- Safe walking: The unique oscillating structure (3D profile) provides better traction and prevents slipping, even when the grass is wet.
- Preserving greenery: Unlike concrete pavers, it does not overheat or dry out the grass in summer, keeping the area naturally green.
- Easy installation: Simply unroll the mat, let it settle, and then install it - fast and easy, without effort.
- Ecological and sustainable: Made from recycled polymers and fully permeable to water (SuDS compatible).
- Certification: One of the few mats certified for parking on grass without replacing the subsoil.
Unique structure and durability
The GrassRoll grass reinforcement mat is made from chemically non-aggressive, recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE). Its specific oscillating design is not just a visual feature – it was created to increase traction and slip resistance.
The grid protects grass roots from direct contact with tires, preventing soil compaction and the formation of tire tracks. The material is UV-stabilized, ensuring a long service life even under prolonged sun exposure.
- High tensile strength (14 kN/m).
- Resistance to rot and biological influences.
- Environmentally friendly (100% recyclable).
Where can you use GrassRoll Extra?
Thanks to its exceptional load capacity (up to 7.5 tons per axle on a stable base), GrassRoll Extra is designed for the most demanding applications among grass reinforcement mats. It is the ideal solution for places that need to withstand more than just occasional passage.
Besides parking lots, the mat is also suitable for reinforcing surfaces for events, festivals, or as an access path for maintenance vehicles in parks and gardens.
- Permanent and temporary parking lots.
- Driveways to houses and garages.
- Areas for caravans and campsites.
- Barrier-free access for wheelchairs.
Step 1: Ground preparation is key
The basis for long service life and functionality of the system is a quality base. The surface must be smooth, firm, and able to drain water. Before installation, we recommend mowing the existing lawn as short as possible, or locally reseeding grass seed where needed.
Any bumps, holes, or depressions must be leveled by filling with sandy soil (a mix of sand and clay) and compacted. If the base is waterlogged or unstable, it must first be reinforced (e.g. with a gravel bed), otherwise the mat will not function properly.
Step 2: Unrolling the GrassRoll
Because GrassRoll is supplied in rolls, it tends to curl after unpacking. Before anchoring, it is essential to unroll the mat onto its intended location and let it "rest" for at least 1 hour so it regains its natural flatness.
The ambient temperature significantly affects the time needed for it to flatten out – in cold weather this may take longer. We recommend loosely securing the corners with pegs so the mat does not shift while it "acclimatizes." Only once the mat has flattened out should you proceed with final anchoring using staples.
Step 3: Anchoring technique for maximum stability
Secure anchoring is the most important part of the installation. For one roll (2m x 15m), it is recommended to use at least 90 steel U-pins, which are included in the package. From experience, it is advisable to use twice that number of steel staples.
Recommended anchoring pattern:
- Outer edges: Anchor every 300–350 mm.
- Center of the area: Create a "chevron" (arrow) pattern in 3 rows, with a spacing of 500 mm in width and a maximum of 750 mm in length.
- Drive the staples parallel to the mesh cells so they do not protrude and do not damage the mower blades when mowing.
Step 4: Joining rolls and important details
When installing multiple rolls next to each other, never overlap them. Place the mats tightly against one another. Secure the joint with a single row of staples that catches the edges of both adjacent mats at once.
Watch out for temperature: Plastic reacts to temperature changes. If you are installing the mat in cold weather, leave a gap of approximately 10-15 mm between individual rolls. This expansion gap allows the material to expand during hot summer days without the surface buckling.
Care and use after installation
After anchoring, you can lightly dust the surface with sandy soil to level out small depressions, but the mat must not be completely covered. For best results, we recommend not putting cars on the area during the growing season, approximately 6-8 weeks, until the grass grows through the grid.
If immediate use is necessary, it is possible, but expect reduced traction when wet and slower grass growth. Mowing is done as standard, however for the first 3 to 4 mowings, set the mower blades to a higher level.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - GrassRoll Extra
Can I park immediately after installation?
The manufacturer strongly recommends waiting 6-8 weeks (during the growing season) for the grass to firmly interlock with the mat. Although it is technically possible to use the area immediately if necessary, early loading may slow down grass growth and reduce the aesthetic result.
Is the surface safe when it rains?
Until the grass grows through the mat, the plastic surface may be more slippery than an ordinary lawn when wet or frosty. The oscillating structure of GrassRoll Extra is designed to minimize the risk of slipping, but we recommend extra caution and possibly marking the area.
How to properly mow a lawn with the mat?
Mowing is done in the usual way. It is important that the mat is properly anchored and "settled" on the terrain. For the first 3-4 mowings, set the mower to a higher height so the grass can grow through the grid structure.
Why might the mat wave over time?
Waviness is usually caused by the thermal expansion of the plastic. If the mat was installed in cold weather without an expansion gap, it may lift up in summer. The solution is to install it with a gap (approx. 15 mm), and if needed, add additional anchoring staples.
