Material and construction

The GrassRoll Premium+ grass reinforcement mat is made from recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which is chemically and biologically inert. This means it does not release any substances into the soil and is safe for children and pets.

Compared to the stronger Extra version, this model is more flexible, which makes handling easier when laying it on more uneven garden terrain. The material is fully recyclable and UV-stabilized.

GrassRoll Premium+ is not just for parking. Thanks to its structure, it is an excellent helper in places where the lawn suffers from heavy foot traffic or play.

It is often used to reinforce heavily used areas under swings, slides, or around sandpits. It prevents the grass from being worn away down to bare soil and the formation of muddy puddles, keeping the playground clean and safe.

Step 1: Surface preparation

Although the mat does not require replacing the subsoil, the surface must be flat and firm. Before installation, mow the lawn as short as possible. Remove stones and branches, and fill in any holes with soil.

If the terrain is too soft or waterlogged, we recommend compacting it first with a roller so that the mat does not sink too deep into the mud when driven over.

Step 2: Letting the mat acclimatize

The mat is supplied in rolls, so after unpacking it retains a shape memory and may curl. Unroll it at the intended location and let it "rest" for at least 1 hour (longer in cooler weather).

The goal is for the mat to initially lie flat on the ground over its entire surface. Only once it is flat can you start anchoring it. You can temporarily weigh down or lightly secure the corners so it doesn't shift.

Step 3: Anchoring and fixing

The GrassRoll Premium+ package includes a basic set of U-shaped anchor pins (usually 3 pcs/m²). However, for perfect stability, especially on curves or uneven terrain, we recommend purchasing additional steel pins and increasing the anchoring density.

Principles of proper anchoring:

• Slightly stretch the mat while anchoring to prevent "bubbles" from forming.
• If laying multiple rolls next to each other, do not overlap them, but place them tightly together (edge to edge).
• Drive the pins all the way to the surface so they don't stick out and damage the mower.

Care and maintenance

After installation, the mat is fully functional, but for the best aesthetic result, we recommend letting the grass grow through the grid (approx. 6-8 weeks during the growing season). This way, the grass will "lock" the grid and completely hide it.

During the first few months, mow the lawn at a higher setting to avoid damaging the mat while it "settles". In winter, you can normally clear the area of snow (using a rubber-edged rake), as the mat is frost-resistant.
