Cutting the screen

Before purchasing the screen, it is advisable to measure the balcony or fence so you don't buy unnecessarily more material (or you can return it to us - even after up to 100 years).

In most cases, you will need to shorten or adjust the mat in some way. Ordinary office scissors or a utility knife will work for this. When cutting, it is recommended to use a spirit level or a board to ensure a perfectly straight cut. Scissors can be used for both straight cuts and cutting out arches or other shapes. Even though the mat is made (welded) from horizontal and vertical woven synthetic rattan strips 19 mm wide, the screen does not fray or gradually unravel after cutting.

Installing the screen

Now comes the installation of the screen on the railing, fence or balcony. Ideally, install it in warmer weather, as the material becomes more pliable and splits less. Fastening varies depending on the options the surface offers, but the most common installation method is attaching the mat using cable ties.

On the windward side, place the ties closer together - approx. 15-20 cm apart, while on the leeward side a spacing of 30-50 cm between ties is sufficient. Since the screen is made of several woven strips with small gaps between them, the cable tie can be threaded through anywhere on the entire surface of the screen and there is no need to puncture it. If the surface underneath the screen is made of wood or an OSB board, you can use a staple gun, screws or nails for fastening. You can find a detailed guide at this link.

Neighbor's tip: When buying cable ties, try to match the color of the screen and the cable tie as closely as possible for a perfect design. Cable ties can be purchased in the traditional black color as well as in other color variants. Just like with the screen, plan ahead for the ties what minimum length you will need (e.g. based on the circumference of the post or railing).

Low-maintenance

The LEGI balcony screen is easy to use and maintain. To clean the screen from ordinary dust, washing with lukewarm water mixed with a dish detergent, such as Jar, is sufficient. Since the surface of the screen is very realistic, pollen or other impurities may also settle between the individual rattan strips. Here, an ordinary dish sponge or brush will serve you best for cleaning. If your screen is located in the garden, you can use a garden hose or pressure washer for rinsing.

Synthetic rattan

The screen is made of shape- and color-stable 100% recyclable polyethylene (also known as synthetic rattan, polyrattan or technorattan) using a fiber welding technology, which ensures that the material does not fray when shaped. The material is resistant to UV radiation, frost, mold, dirt and water. It is tensile strong and can be bent and cut into any desired shape. Synthetic rattan is a double-sided, easy-to-clean material, suitable for both outdoor and indoor use. Unlike natural rattan, synthetic rattan does not show the effects of time, which most commonly appear on natural rattan as peeling and splitting.

Synthetic rattan is of course safe for health, so there is no need to worry about the effects of harmful substances on your health. Moreover, the material is fully recyclable and therefore leaves no impact on the environment. Thanks to all these properties, it stands out with a very long lifespan of up to 20 years.
