What is the procedure for correctly planning the dimensions and sewing the sail?
When making a sliding canopy on a home sewing machine, it is important to follow precise technical instructions to prevent premature damage to the seams or improper functioning of the sliding mechanism:
- Width calculation: The final width of the finished sail must be 2 cm smaller than the axial distance between two parallel stainless steel cables. This 2 cm dimensional gap is necessary for the correct positioning and free movement of the sliding runners.
- Length calculation (wave effect): If you want the shading sail to be completely flat when fully extended, order a length of fabric corresponding to the net length of the shaded area. If you prefer an aesthetic sagging wave effect (balloon effect), add exactly 10% to the total length of the area.
- Hem construction: We recommend sewing the side edges of the sail, onto which the sliding runners are screwed, as three-layered hems with a net width of 2 cm.

Can I sew this polyester fabric on a regular home sewing machine?
Yes. With a weight of 140 g/m², this fabric is light and flexible enough. Any standard home sewing machine can be used for sewing. We recommend using a universal needle in size NM 90–100 or a special denim needle, and a strong polyester thread intended for outdoor use.
Is this shading fabric also suitable as protection against heavy rain?
The fabric has a hydrophobic water-repellent layer that reliably sheds light drizzle and spring showers. However, it is not primarily intended as a completely waterproof sheet. During prolonged heavy downpours or if water pockets form, the material may eventually let water through, so installation at an angle is recommended.
