Peddy Shield Pull Cord System for Awning Fabric Adjustment
Code: OZ_PD-09-77-02-00Product detailed description
Comfortable, effortless control of your shading fabric
The complete Peddy Shield pull cord system offers a convenient alternative to the usual push rods. This mechanism, which uses cord-operated control of the awnings, ensures smooth retracting and extending of sun shading fabrics via two fixed perlon cords. It is ideal for awnings mounted high up, where reaching them by hand or with a rod is difficult, and provides valuable assistance for elderly people or those with limited mobility.
Smart two-way movement with a built-in safety feature
This system consists of two independent branches of perlon cords. One is used for extending (shading with the fabric), and the other for retracting it. The whole mechanism is designed to ensure maximum safety in the event of a sudden change in weather:
- Storm protection: While the retracting cord is fixed to a wall bracket, the extending cord remains free, weighted only by a 50-gram lead weight. This means the fabric is not rigidly locked in the "open" position. In strong gusts of wind, the fabric can retract almost automatically, minimizing the wind exposure area and preventing the fabric from tearing.
- Solution for sloped roofs: When mounted on sloped pergola or conservatory structures (with an incline), the pull cord system is installed exclusively on the guide steel cable which bears the largest part of the fabric's weight.
Important note: This system serves solely as a mechanical aid for moving the fabric. It is not intended for hanging or tensioning the sun shading fabric itself – for that purpose, a standard cable tensioning set must be used.
Complete installation set ready to use
The package includes all the components needed to put the system into operation immediately on a single guide cable:
- 2x 8 m white perlon cord: Strong and mechanically resistant cords with integrated chrome-plated key rings for easy attachment to the guide steel cable.
- 2x guide bushing (plastic tubes): Inserted into the mounting brackets, where they protect the cord from friction against sharp metal edges and ensure quiet movement.
- 2x eye screw: An alternative anchoring element for wood, for cases where standard mounting brackets are not used.
- For the closing cord: 1x white decorative pull cap (bell shape) and 1x wall cord holder with 2 screws and wall plugs (recommended to mount out of children's reach).
- For the opening cord: 1x 50-gram weight, which keeps the cord permanently taut and prevents it from sagging under the structure.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) - Pull cord system
Which cable should I install the system on if my fabric is sloped?
If the shading fabric is sloped, always install the pull cord system on the steel cable positioned higher up. The upper cable bears a substantially greater share of the fabric's weight, which makes its smooth movement in both directions easier.
Why can't I fix the opening cord permanently as well?
This is an important safety feature. If you fixed the fabric permanently to the wall in the retracted (open) position, a strong gust of wind could hit it with full force and tear the fabric or rip the tensioners out of the structure. The free lead weight allows the fabric to react naturally to the wind.
What if I don't have Peddy Shield mounting brackets? How do I attach the cord?
If you are not using the original corner brackets, the package includes two special eye screws for wood. Screw these into the wooden structure at the ends of the track and simply thread the perlon cord through them to create guide pulleys.
Can I use the system with thicker steel cables?
The system is primarily optimized for the original 2 mm stainless steel cables. With thicker cables, the key rings may have difficulty passing through, and movement through the guide bushings may not be smooth. For trouble-free operation, we recommend using only 2 mm cables.
