This material is technically designed for cable systems. Thanks to its suitable density, it provides effective shading and reflects light, and unlike rigid awning materials, it does not darken conservatories or terraces as much. The fabric is sold by standard metre (1 running metre = 100 × 146 cm).

How to correctly plan the dimensions and sew a shade sail?
When making your own sliding system on a home sewing machine, it is necessary to follow precise technical procedures to avoid damaging the seams or the proper movement of the sliding mechanism:
- Width calculation: The final width of the finished sail must be 2 cm smaller than the centre distance between two parallel stainless steel cables. This 2 cm dimensional gap is necessary for the correct placement and free movement of the sliding runners.
- Length calculation (waving effect): If you want the shade sail to be completely straight when fully extended, order a length of fabric corresponding to the net length of the shaded area. If you prefer an aesthetic drooping wave (balloon effect), add exactly 10% to the total length of the field.
- Hem construction: We recommend sewing the side edges of the sail, onto which the sliding runners are screwed, as three-layer hems with a net width of 2 cm.
- Choice of sewing thread: For sewing, use exclusively 100% polyester outdoor threads (e.g. Gütermann Mara 30) . Under no circumstances use cotton or pure silk threads, as they have no UV protection and, due to sunlight, the seams will completely disintegrate within a few months.
- Runner spacing: For indoor shading of conservatories, we recommend screwing on runners with a spacing of 20 cm (the fold depth of the folded sail will be 10 cm). For outdoor shading of terrace roofs, choose a spacing of 30 cm (the fold depth will be 15 cm).

Can I sew this polyester fabric on a regular home sewing machine?
Yes. With a weight of 140 g/m², this fabric is light and flexible enough. A standard home sewing machine can be used for sewing. We recommend using a universal needle NM 90–100 or a special denim needle and a strong polyester outdoor thread.
Is this shading fabric also suitable as protection against heavy rain?
The fabric has a hydrophobic water-repellent layer that reliably sheds light rain showers. However, it is not intended as a fully waterproof car cover. During long, intense downpours or when water pockets form, the material may eventually leak, so installation with a slope is recommended.
Why is this material better than a classic awning fabric?
Original awning fabrics are extremely stiff, heavy and rigid. They are not machine washable and create significant resistance in a cable system, causing the sliding runners to get stuck. Our 140g/m² fabric is flexible, folds easily and glides along the cable effortlessly.

You can clean the sail in an automatic washing machine on a gentle program at temperatures up to 40 °C. The advantage of this material and Peddy Shield runners is that you don't need to remove the sliding hooks before washing – you can wash them directly with the fabric, saving time on maintenance.
