Anchoring

The plastic edging needs to be gradually anchored while laying it. You can choose from two options - plastic and metal pins. Plastic anchoring pins are mainly used when anchoring into a standard base - for example into loosened soil. Steel anchoring pins, on the other hand, are used in places where you encounter denser subsoil - for example clay soil.

When laying a straight section of plastic edging, 3 anchoring pins per 1 metre are sufficient. However, if you are bending and shaping the edging, it is advisable to anchor the section with 6 anchoring pins. Each 1-metre section of the LEGI edging always has 6 holes for pins. Both types of pins mentioned fit into these holes. A regular hammer is sufficient to drive in the pins.

Shaping

Due to the nature of garden areas, flower beds or paths, plastic edgings need to be shaped. Before bending, you need to cut notches in the edging, for which regular garden shears or combination pliers will do, and then you can start shaping it. One metre-long section of the edging can even be bent all the way around, creating a circle with a diameter of approximately 32 cm. This shape is useful, for example, when edging around trees.

To increase the flexibility of the material, we recommend leaving the edgings in direct sunlight for a while, immersing them in warm water, or warming them with a heat gun. In most cases, however, due to the material's high flexibility, this warming process is not necessary.

Connecting

If you're wondering how the individual one-metre sections of the edging can be connected, we have good news for you. All LEGI edgings are equipped with a locking system on each side, which ensures a reliable and firm connection. The connection is made by simply sliding the pieces together, which does not require much force, so anyone can manage it. You will also use the connecting system when you want to join the edging into a circle.

In addition to the edgings themselves and anchoring pins, you will also find garden fabrics useful when laying plastic edgings. The most common types include geotextile and non-woven mulching fabric. The fabric most often serves as a separating layer, which also prevents weeds from growing through. The fabrics are resistant to mould and rot. Garden fabrics are installed under the edging and are held in place by the anchoring pins themselves, driven through the edging. The garden fabric separates the lower layer, consisting of soil, from the upper layer, most often consisting of mulch bark, decorative stones, paving, etc.
