The weekly program (also called a "weekly schedule" or "7-day program") is a set of settings that determine what temperature should be in your flat or house at each time of day and each day of the week. Instead of manually changing the temperature every day in the morning before leaving, at noon, in the evening when you get home, and at night before going to bed – the thermostat does it for you automatically according to a pre-set schedule.
The principle is simple: the thermostat has an internal clock and calendar. When the set time arrives, it switches to a different "temperature profile" – for example, from a night-time 17 °C to a morning 21 °C. The receiver (boiler module), which is physically connected to the boiler, receives the wireless signal and turns the boiler on or off as needed.
From experience, we know that the biggest savings come from setting a lower temperature during working hours (when you're not home) and at night. Lowering the temperature by 2 °C for 8 hours a day represents a real saving of around 10–12% of annual heating costs. With a reduction of 4 °C (for example, from 21 °C to 17 °C overnight), we're talking about 20% or more.
Basic terms you need to know before programming
Before you start pressing buttons, it's worth knowing how manufacturers name these functions. Different brands use different terms, but the principle is always the same.
Temperature levels (comfort, eco, frost protection)
Comfort temperature (Comfort / Day) – higher temperature when you're home and active. Typically 20–22 °C. Sometimes marked with a sun symbol or the letter "C".
Eco temperature (Economy / Night / Setback) – reduced temperature when you're sleeping or away. Typically 16–18 °C. Marked with a moon symbol or the letter "E".
Frost protection temperature (Anti-freeze / Frost Protection) – minimum protective temperature, usually 5–10 °C. Used during longer absences (holidays). Marked with a snowflake symbol.
Daily blocks and switching times
Most thermostats allow 4–6 switching times per day (so-called "switching points" or "periods"). Each switching time defines from when a given temperature applies. For example: comfort from 6:00, eco from 8:00, comfort from 16:00, eco from 22:00. That's 4 switching times.
Programming by day
Thermostats offer various programming modes based on days:
- 5+2 – weekdays (Mon–Fri) have the same program, the weekend (Sat–Sun) has its own program
- 5+1+1 – weekdays, Saturday and Sunday each set separately
- 7 days – you set each day individually. The most flexible, but also takes the longest to input
- 1 day for all – the same program every day. The simplest, but least efficient
Preparation before programming – what to plan in advance
This is a step that most people skip, and then they wonder why they're not satisfied with the result. Before you touch the thermostat, write down your actual daily schedule on paper.
Answer these questions:
- What time do you get up on weekdays? (The thermostat should start heating 30–45 minutes in advance.)
- What time do you leave home?
- What time do you return?
- What time do you go to bed?
- Does your Friday schedule differ from Monday's?
- How do you spend the weekend – are you home all day, or do you go out?
- Is anyone home during the day (retirees, remote work, small children)?
A practical example: A family with two working adults and a school-age child. They get up at 6:30, leave at 7:30. The child comes home from school at 13:30, the parents at 17:00. They go to bed around 22:30. In this case, it makes sense to set comfort from 6:00 (30 min before getting up), eco from 7:30, partial comfort from 13:00 (when the child arrives), full comfort from 17:00, and eco from 22:30.
Programming procedure – step by step
The following procedure is generalized for most wireless thermostats available on the Slovak market. Specific steps may vary slightly depending on the model, but the logic remains the same.
Step 1: Setting the correct time and date
This is the basic condition for the program to work correctly. If the thermostat has the wrong time, all switching times will be shifted. Most thermostats prompt you to set the time automatically on first startup or after replacing batteries. The setting is usually found in the menu under a clock icon or the abbreviation "CLK" / "TIME".
Important: Don't forget to check the day of the week as well. For example, on the Euroster 2006 TX, the day is set by a number (1 = Monday, 7 = Sunday), which may not be obvious at first glance.
Step 2: Entering programming mode
You usually enter the programming menu by pressing and holding the "PROG" or "SET" button for 3–5 seconds. The display will show either the day of the week (e.g., "MO" for Monday) or directly the first switching time. Some models first show a prompt to select the program type (5+2 / 7 days / etc.).
Step 3: Selecting the program structure
If the thermostat offers a choice, we recommend 5+1+1 or 7 days for typical households. The 5+2 option is only suitable when both Saturday and Sunday look the same. In practice, this is rarely the case – for example, you might be home all day Saturday but out on trips Sunday. It's therefore worth the effort to set both days separately.
Step 4: Entering switching times and temperatures for the first day
This is the core of the whole process. For each switching time, you enter two values: time (hours:minutes) and the desired temperature. The procedure is usually as follows:
- Use the arrow buttons to set the hour, confirm with the OK button or another arrow.
- Set the minutes (usually in 10 or 15-minute increments, some models even in 1-minute increments).
- Set the temperature for the given block (up/down arrows).
- Move on to the next switching time.
On the Euroster 2026 TX, the procedure is slightly different – the thermostat displays switching times as blocks "P1" to "P6" for each day, and for each block you enter a start time and temperature. If you want to skip a block (for example, if you don't use all 6 switching times), set it to the same temperature as the previous block, or deactivate it according to the manual.
Step 5: Copying the program to other days
Most thermostats allow you to copy Monday's program to Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. This function is usually activated with the "COPY" button or by holding OK during the transition to the next day. Make full use of this – program Monday perfectly, then copy it to Tuesday–Thursday. You can slightly adjust Friday (e.g., a later return home, a later evening). Program the weekend completely from scratch.
Step 6: Saving and verifying
After setting the last day, press OK or PROG to save. The thermostat returns to normal display. Now verify the setting: go through the program and check that the times and temperatures are correct. On some models, you do this by repeatedly briefly pressing PROG.
Programming specific models – what else you should know
Euroster 2006 TX and Euroster 2026 TX
Euroster thermostats are among the best-selling in Slovakia, partly because their programming is relatively intuitive. The Euroster 2006 TX works in 5+1+1 or 7-day mode and offers 6 switching times per day. Each switching time (P1–P6) is defined by a start time and a temperature.
When programming the Euroster, watch out for these details:
- Minutes can only be set in 10-minute steps (0, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50).
- If you don't use all 6 switching times, set the unused blocks to the same temperature as the previous block – otherwise unexpected behavior may occur.
- After replacing the batteries, the time and program are usually retained thanks to backup memory, but we recommend checking.
The Euroster 2026 TX is a more advanced model with a display also for setting the receiver, which is useful, for example, with boilers that have their own controls.
SALUS 2026TX and SALUS 091FLRF
The SALUS 2026TX offers 6 switching times per day and supports either a 5+2 or 7-day program. Programming is done through a simple menu with a numeric display. The strength of SALUS thermostats is the clarity of the menu – at each step, the display clearly shows what you are currently setting.
The SALUS 091FLRF is a special model designed for underfloor heating with an external floor temperature sensor. When programming this model, it's important to distinguish whether you're regulating air temperature or floor temperature – both values can be set as limits. The weekly program works the same way as with classic models, but you need to be careful when setting the maximum floor temperature (typically 27–29 °C for wooden floors, 35 °C for tiles).
Avansa 2007 TX
The Avansa 2007 TX is among the models with a larger and clearer display. Programming the weekly schedule is handled here via a dedicated PROG button, and navigation between days and time blocks is smooth. The model supports 7-day programming with 4 switching times per day, which is fully sufficient for most households.
The most common programming mistakes and how to fix them
The thermostat heats at the wrong times
The cause is almost always an incorrectly set time or day of the week. Check the clock in the menu and make sure the thermostat knows what day it is today. For example, if it shows Friday on Monday morning, it will heat according to Friday's program.
The temperature doesn't drop even during eco time
This can be caused by the thermostat being switched to manual mode, meaning the program isn't running at all. Check whether AUTO or PROG mode is active – usually indicated by an "A" symbol or a clock icon on the display. Another possibility: the eco temperature is set too close to the comfort temperature.
The boiler doesn't turn on even when it should

The program resets after replacing the batteries
Some cheaper models don't have backup memory for the program – once the batteries die, you lose all settings. That's why we recommend taking a photo of the display at each programming step after the first setup, or writing down the settings. Higher-tier Euroster and SALUS models have EEPROM memory, which retains the program even without power.
The program runs, but the room doesn't warm up in time
A wireless thermostat measures the temperature at the location where it's mounted and heats until it reaches that value. If the thermostat is on a cold wall or in a draft, it will heat longer and the room might become too warm. If the thermostat is near a heat source, it will turn off heating sooner. Also, not all models have an early-start function (the so-called "optimum start") – some simply turn on exactly at the set time, not earlier. We therefore recommend setting the start of heating 30–45 minutes earlier than when you actually want it to be warm.
Weekend program – specifics and practical settings
For most households, the weekend is completely different from the working week, which is why it deserves its own program. A typical weekend pattern looks like this:
- Saturday: Later wake-up time (8:00–9:00), home all day (comfort 21–22 °C), later bedtime setback (23:00)
- Sunday: Similar to Saturday, but sometimes with an earlier evening setback due to Monday morning
If you go away for the weekend (cottage, family), set Saturday and Sunday to eco or frost-protection temperature. Some thermostats have a special "holiday" mode that overrides the weekly program for a certain number of days – check whether your model supports it, as it's a very practical feature.
Manual override function (override / hold)
Even with a perfectly programmed thermostat, situations arise where you want to temporarily change the temperature – you have guests, you're sick at home, or you simply feel a bit chilly. This is what the temporary override function is for.
It works by pressing the up/down arrows to change the desired temperature. A manual setting icon appears on the display. The thermostat will maintain this temperature either until the next switching time (after which it returns to the program), or until you manually switch it back to AUTO mode.
Distinguish this from permanent manual mode (MANUAL / MAN), where the thermostat completely ignores the program and holds one temperature constantly. If you accidentally switch to this mode, the program won't work at all.

This is a question everyone asks. The answer depends on many factors – house size, insulation, boiler type, gas price. But some generally valid figures exist:
- Each degree of temperature reduction = savings of approx. 6–8% in energy consumption
- An 8-hour daily reduction of 2 °C (eco during the day when away) = approx. 10–12% annually

Not all wireless thermostats are the same when it comes to programming comfort. The key differences are:
- Number of switching times per day: Cheaper models have 2–3, better ones 4–6. For a typical household, 4 is sufficient, 6 is a luxury for a more demanding schedule.
- Minute-setting granularity: Some models set the time only in 30-minute increments, others in 10-minute increments, premium ones in 1-minute increments.
- Backup memory: EEPROM memory retains the program even after replacing the batteries. Without it, you have to reprogram after every battery change.
- Display size and clarity: Programming on a small display with poor backlighting is frustrating. A large, illuminated display makes it easier, especially for older users.
- Optimum Start function: The thermostat calculates for itself when it needs to start heating to reach the desired temperature at the set time. Not all models have this.

Vacation and longer absence
When leaving for vacation, you have two options. First: manually set the thermostat to frost-protection temperature (5–10 °C) and switch it back to AUTO mode upon return. Second (better): use the holiday mode, if your model has it. You enter the return date and the temperature during your absence, and the thermostat automatically returns to the weekly program when you get back.
Never leave a flat or house completely without heating in winter – there's a risk of frozen pipes. Frost protection at 7–8 °C is the minimum.
Daylight saving time change
Every spring and autumn, don't forget to adjust the time on the thermostat. Many people forget and then wonder why the heating is "late" or "early". The procedure depends on the model – most thermostats don't have automatic time change, it must be set manually.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Do I need to reprogram the thermostat after replacing the batteries?
It depends on the model. Thermostats with EEPROM backup memory (most higher-tier Euroster, SALUS and Avansa models) retain both the program and the time even after replacing the batteries. Some cheaper models without backup memory reset – after replacing the batteries, you'll need to set the time and the whole program again. That's why we recommend keeping a written or photographed record of the program.
Why doesn't the thermostat heat even though it's comfort temperature time?
The most common cause is that the current room temperature has already reached or exceeds the desired temperature. The thermostat doesn't need to heat. Another possibility: the thermostat isn't in AUTO/PROG mode, but in manual or "off" mode. Check the icons on the display. Also verify that the receiver is communicating correctly with the thermostat – the indicator is the LED on the receiver.
Can I have different programs for different rooms?
Not directly with a single thermostat – a standard wireless thermostat controls one circuit (one boiler/zone). To control multiple rooms independently, you need either several thermostats with multiple zones, or a system with a multi-zone controller. Some systems (e.g., SALUS iT600) allow this via an app, but those are smart thermostats of a different category.
What is the ideal temperature for the night (eco) mode?
For most households, the optimal night eco temperature is 16–18 °C. At a lower temperature (e.g., 14 °C), you'll save more, but it will take longer in the morning for the room to warm up to comfort temperature, and the thermostat has to work harder. For houses with poorer insulation or for elderly people, we recommend a night minimum of 17 °C. For children's rooms, it's not advisable to go below 17 °C.
What is "party mode" or "override" and when should I use it?
Party mode (temporary override) allows you to temporarily maintain a higher temperature without changing the entire program. You press the up arrow, set the desired temperature, and the thermostat will hold it until the next switching time, after which it returns to the program. It's ideal for unexpected guests, when you want to stay up later, or when you're sick and need more warmth.
Why doesn't the room temperature match what the thermostat shows?
The thermostat measures the temperature right where it's mounted – on the wall. If it's further from windows, or conversely close to a heat source (radiator, sun, television), it will register a different value than the actual average room temperature. The ideal mounting height is 1.2–1.5 m from the floor, away from windows, doors and heat sources.
