The piston works on the principle of thermal expansion, and as the temperature in the greenhouse rises, it pushes the lever and opens the window. This prevents the greenhouse from overheating during hot summer days and from overcooling at night or on colder days. Temperature regulation in the greenhouse protects plants from dying due to lack of fresh air circulation and high temperatures. Opening occurs within a temperature range of 17°C to 25°C.

The piston is a replacement part for automatic roof openers as well as front window openers.
