Detailed information

Product detailed description

Vaillant actoSTOR VIH QL 75 B is a compact wall-hung domestic hot water cylinder with a volume of 72 litres, which uses patented layered charging technology to achieve hot water performance comparable to a conventional cylinder of around 120 litres - all in a considerably smaller and more compact unit designed to be hung directly next to a condensing boiler.

The cylinder is designed as an ideal complement to Vaillant ecoTEC plus wall-hung condensing boilers - it is mounted on the same wall, at the same height as the boiler, either on its left or right side, depending on the layout of the room and on which connection side your specific boiler model supports. This creates a compact, aesthetically unified heating and hot water source on a single wall, without the need for a separate room or large space for a floor-standing cylinder.

Installation and connection with the ecoTEC plus boiler

The actoSTOR VIH QL 75 B cylinder is mounted on a flat wall with sufficient load-bearing capacity, at the same height as the accompanying Vaillant ecoTEC plus condensing boiler, on its left or right side. To connect the cylinder to the boiler, a separately supplied connection set (heating circuit and hot/cold water piping) and a cover set are required, which are chosen according to which side of the boiler the cylinder will be hung on - our range includes variants for installation on both the left and right side of the boiler. The actual installation, including hydraulic and any electrical connections (the cylinder charging circulation pump is part of the ecoTEC plus boiler control), must be carried out by a qualified technician authorised to install gas appliances and heating equipment, who will also commission the cylinder.

Compatibility and choosing a suitable boiler

The cylinder is primarily intended to work together with ecoTEC plus condensing boilers with an output suitable for typical family houses and apartments - thanks to the layered charging technology, when combined with a suitable boiler model it can also provide comfortable hot water preparation for a household with higher demands for immediate draw-off (for example several bathrooms used in quick succession). When choosing a specific ecoTEC plus boiler model and its output, we recommend basing the decision on the household's actual hot water needs - we will be happy to help you choose the right combination of boiler and this cylinder according to the number of occupants and draw-off points in your property.

How the patented layered charging technology works

Conventional indirectly heated cylinders work on the principle of a single large heat exchanger (coil) located in the lower part of the tank, which gradually heats the entire volume of water at once. With larger hot water draw-off, the boiler has to reheat the entire volume of the tank, which can take longer and also means greater heat losses from maintaining a high temperature across a large volume of water even when hot water is not currently being used.

Instead, the actoSTOR VIH QL 75 B cylinder uses patented layered charging technology, in which water is heated in smaller batches and stored (layered) in the upper part of the tank exactly according to temperature - the hottest water thus always remains in the upper part, ready for immediate draw-off, while the cooler water in the lower part is continuously reheated according to current demand. As a result, even a relatively small volume of 72 litres can, in practice, provide hot water comfort comparable to a conventional cylinder with a volume of around 120 litres.

This technology also reduces the energy losses associated with maintaining the temperature of a large volume of water, since the boiler does not have to reheat the entire contents of the tank each time, only the part that has actually been drawn off. In practice, this means faster availability of hot water after draw-off and lower standby energy consumption (declared by the manufacturer for this model at 0.9 kWh per 24 hours for this model), which has a positive effect on the household's overall running costs.

Layered charging is controlled by the automatics of the ecoTEC plus boiler, which continuously evaluates the temperature in the individual layers of the cylinder using sensors and, according to current demand, triggers reheating of exactly the part of the volume that needs it - the user therefore does not need to intervene in the control in any way, as the system works fully automatically in the background of normal boiler operation.

From the point of view of the ordinary user, this technology is reflected primarily in practical comfort - even after a larger hot water draw-off (for example after several household members shower one after another), thanks to the continuous reheating of the individual layers the cylinder is quickly ready to provide another batch of hot water again, without having to wait for the entire volume of the tank to be reheated from scratch, as would be the case with a conventional large-volume cylinder with a single heat exchanger at the bottom.

The combination of compact dimensions, low weight (compared to floor-standing cylinders of similar output) and layered charging technology makes the actoSTOR VIH QL 75 B model a practical choice wherever space in the utility room or bathroom is limited, yet the household still requires hot water comfort comparable to a larger-volume conventional cylinder.

Maintenance and service

An indirectly heated hot water cylinder requires considerably less maintenance than an electric water heater with its own heating element; nevertheless, it is recommended that the condition of the magnesium anode, which protects the steel tank against corrosion and naturally wears out over time, be checked once a year as part of the boiler's service inspection - replacing it in time extends the service life of the entire cylinder. The annual inspection also checks the function of the safety valve on the hot water side and the tightness of all connections. In areas with harder water, treating the fill water can also be beneficial, as it reduces the risk of limescale build-up inside the tank and on the heat exchanger.

Why choose the actoSTOR VIH QL 75 B

Thanks to its compact dimensions of 720 × 440 × 440 mm and wall-hung installation directly next to the boiler, the actoSTOR VIH QL 75 B saves a significant amount of floor space compared to a conventional floor-standing cylinder - which is especially appreciated in smaller utility rooms, storage rooms or bathrooms, where a large floor-standing cylinder simply would not fit. The patented layered charging technology also ensures that even with this compact 72-litre volume you achieve hot water comfort comparable to considerably larger conventional cylinders. As a genuine part from the manufacturer Vaillant, supplied through the verified partner WINTNER s.r.o., this cylinder is guaranteed full compatibility and warranty when used together with ecoTEC plus boilers.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions - Vaillant actoSTOR VIH QL 75 B

How does the actoSTOR cylinder's layered charging technology work?

Instead of heating the entire volume at once in a single large heating process, the cylinder continuously reheats smaller quantities of water and layers them in the upper part of the tank, where the water is hottest and ready for draw-off first - as a result, hot water is available faster and with lower energy losses than with a conventional large-volume cylinder.

Can the cylinder be connected to a boiler other than Vaillant ecoTEC plus?

The cylinder is structurally and aesthetically designed to work together with the ecoTEC plus range, including shared connection and cover sets - connecting it to a boiler of a different brand would require a different hydraulic solution and would not guarantee the same comfort or aesthetic unity of the installation.

Can the cylinder be hung on its own, without a neighbouring ecoTEC plus boiler?

The cylinder can be hung on its own on a wall with sufficient load-bearing capacity, but it is hydraulically designed to work together with the ecoTEC plus condensing boiler, which provides its charging - without a suitable heat source, the cylinder would not be able to fulfil its function.

Are the connection and cover sets included in the package?

No, these sets are supplied separately and are chosen according to which side of the boiler (left or right) the cylinder will be mounted on - we will be happy to help you choose the correct one according to the layout of your boiler room.

How long does the magnesium anode in the cylinder last?

The lifespan of the anode depends on water quality and the intensity of cylinder use; its condition is normally checked at each annual service inspection and it is replaced as needed - a properly functioning anode is key to long-term protection of the steel tank against corrosion.

Is a volume of 72 litres sufficient for a typical family?

Thanks to the layered charging technology, the hot water output of this 72-litre cylinder corresponds to a conventional cylinder with a volume of around 120 litres, which, with a correctly chosen output of the accompanying ecoTEC plus boiler, is sufficient for a typical household - however, the exact recommendation depends on the number of occupants and draw-off points, and we will be happy to help you choose.

Is the cylinder suitable for an apartment, or only for a family house?

Thanks to its compact dimensions and wall-hung installation, the cylinder is suitable for both family houses and apartments with limited space in the utility room or bathroom, where a conventional floor-standing cylinder simply would not fit.

What is the maximum hot water temperature the cylinder can produce?

The cylinder is designed for a maximum domestic hot water temperature of up to 85 °C, which covers both normal and increased household demands, including occasional thermal disinfection (e.g. against legionella) at a higher set temperature.

What is the maximum operating pressure of the cylinder?

The cylinder is designed for a maximum operating pressure of 10 bar on both the hot water side and the heating circuit side, which meets the standard requirements of most domestic plumbing systems in family houses and apartments.

Can the cylinder be fitted with a hot water circulation system?

The specific options for adding a circulation circuit depend on the connection set chosen and on the hydraulic connection to the ecoTEC plus boiler - if you are interested in circulation, we will be happy to advise you on a suitable solution for your specific property.

What does the NL 1.5 value given in the technical parameters mean?

The NL value is a standardised indicator of hot water preparation performance used to compare storage water heaters - it expresses how many times the reference household's demand the cylinder, combined with the heat source, can provide in terms of hot water comfort.
