The VA 2-050-100 NKP is an original design cover panel from the Vaillant aroVAIR product range, structurally shared by both larger power versions of the cassette fan coil KN series – the VA 2-050 KN model (cooling capacity up to 5.86 kW, heating capacity up to 6.78 kW) and the more powerful VA 2-100 KN model (cooling capacity up to 11.55 kW, heating capacity up to 12.46 kW). Since both units share the same mounting footprint of 840 × 840 mm, the manufacturer designed a single common cover panel with dimensions of 950 × 950 × 77 mm for them, which simplifies accessory selection and reduces the number of stock items needed for a complete installation of both power classes.

Cassette fan coil units are mounted above the ceiling, where the entire body of the unit remains hidden – the water heat exchanger, the centrifugal fan with DC motor, and all connecting pipes and cables. The only part visible inside the room is precisely this cover panel, attached to the underside of the body exactly at the level of the finished ceiling. The panel serves a dual purpose – it aesthetically conceals the technology while also physically mediating the airflow between the unit and the room via an intake grille with a replaceable filter in the centre and four adjustable outlet louvres around the perimeter.

This allows greater flexibility for later project changes (for example, if it turns out during construction that the room needs higher output than originally anticipated) and also simplifies the stocking of spare panels for installation and service companies working with both power classes of this series.

Design and aesthetics

The panel, measuring 950 × 950 mm with a height of 77 mm, is designed so that once fitted onto the unit body, no mounting hardware or wiring is visible – the smooth, typically white surface acts as an integral part of the ceiling. Four adjustable outlet louvres around the perimeter of the panel allow the airflow to be directed according to the layout of the space, and when used with the compatible VA 2-AWC DK controller with the SWING function, the louvres can automatically oscillate for more even 360° distribution of heat or cold in larger rooms and open-plan layouts, for which the 5 and 10 kW power classes are intended. This aesthetic discretion is one of the main reasons why investors and architects choose a cassette solution instead of a visible wall-mounted or floor-standing unit, especially in representative or design-demanding spaces.

Installation and order of work

The cover panel is installed only after the unit body has been completely connected and tested – water connection (supply and return), condensate drainage into the drip tray, possible connection of the 3-way switching valve, and electrical power supply and control wiring to the controller. Only after verifying the tightness and functionality of all these connections is the panel fitted and secured, which finally closes the access opening in the ceiling with dimensions corresponding to 950 × 950 mm. This procedure allows any leaks or wiring errors to be detected before they are permanently covered, which greatly simplifies any servicing in the initial phase after installation. When replacing the panel later (for example due to damage), there is no need to interfere with the water or electrical connections of the unit body.

Maintenance

The main regular maintenance related to the cover panel is checking, cleaning, or replacing the air filter behind the intake grille – given the higher nominal airflow of both compatible power classes (up to 1,950 m³/h for the VA 2-100 KN model), the filter may clog faster than with smaller units, so during intensive operation we recommend checking it every 3–4 weeks. The panel surface is cleaned with a slightly damp cloth without aggressive chemical agents. It is advisable to occasionally check that the adjustable outlet louvres move freely, especially if the SWING function via the connected controller is not actively used.

Compatibility within the aroVAIR range

This panel is intended exclusively for the cassette KN series in the 5 and 10 kW power classes and is not interchangeable with the smaller VA 2-035 NKP panel (code 8000018475, size 647×647×50 mm) intended for the 3.5 kW body, nor with panels of other aroVAIR structural series (wall-mounted WN, slim console CSN, floor-standing CN), which have their own cover system adapted to the given type of installation. When completing an order, we recommend checking that the panel code actually matches the ordered power class of the unit body to avoid an incorrect size during installation.

The role of the panel in the context of the whole heating/cooling system

Cassette fan coil units of the aroVAIR series are the terminal elements of a hydronic (water-based) heating and cooling system, the heart of which is usually a Vaillant aroTHERM or aroTHERM plus air-to-water heat pump, or possibly an ecoTEC condensing boiler supplemented with a separate chilled water source. Water heated or cooled at the source is distributed via piping to each fan coil unit in the building, where the unit draws in room air through the heat exchanger and returns it to the space through precisely this cover panel. From the end user's perspective, the panel is therefore the only visible interface between this entire technical system and the living space – air is drawn in for processing through it, and conditioned air is returned through it. The quality and design of this interface therefore significantly affects the overall impression of the installation, even though it is a relatively simple, mostly plastic component.
