Product detailed description

Vaillant refrigerant pipe 25 m (1/2") – insulated copper piping for climaVAIR air conditioning units

The Vaillant refrigerant pipe 25 m (1/2") is original insulated copper piping designed to connect the outdoor and indoor units of air conditioning systems from the climaVAIR pro (monosplit) and climaVAIR multi (multisplit) ranges. It is a pre-insulated pair of copper pipes (liquid and gas refrigerant lines) in a thermal insulation jacket, supplied as a 25-metre wound coil with a nominal diameter of 1/2" (12.7 mm), ready for direct unwinding on site without the need to purchase separate insulation. This product is part of the wider range of Vaillant refrigerant pipes available at atria.sk in diameters of 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" and 5/8" and in lengths of 10 or 25 metres, so you can choose exactly the combination of diameter and length required by your specific installation.

What this piping is used for

Refrigerant piping is one of the key components of every split air conditioning system (both monosplit and multisplit) – it connects the outdoor unit (compressor, condenser) with the indoor unit (evaporator) and carries the refrigerant between the two parts of the system in a closed circuit. The 1/2" (12.7 mm) diameter is most commonly used in practice as the gas (suction) line for medium and larger capacity classes of air conditioners – for example, for monosplit units from the climaVAIR pro range with an output of approximately 5.0-7.0 kW (models VAIB1-050WNO and VAIB1-065WNO available in our range), or as part of the main line in some configurations of climaVAIR multi multisplit systems with an outdoor unit from the VAM1 range. The exact required pipe diameter (both liquid and gas lines) varies depending on the specific model and the length of the route – we recommend following the installation manual of the given air conditioning model or consulting the installation company that will be laying the piping.

The 25-metre coil length also covers more demanding installations with a longer route between the outdoor and indoor units (for example, when the outdoor unit is placed on the roof of a multi-storey building, or when the piping runs through several rooms to a more distant indoor unit), since most climaVAIR pro/multi models allow a maximum refrigerant pipe length of 15-25 metres depending on the specific model. The shorter 10-metre package (also available separately in our range) is sufficient for standard residential installations where the outdoor unit is on a balcony or facade in the immediate vicinity of the room with the indoor unit.

Construction and material

The piping is made of copper in a quality intended for refrigeration and air conditioning applications (so-called ACR copper tubing), which is cleaned on the inside and free of oxides to prevent contamination of the refrigerant circuit by impurities. The pipes are supplied in wound coil form, which makes handling and bending easier directly on site without the need to cut them into shorter straight pieces for standard installations. The outer surface of the piping is fitted with a thermal insulation jacket (typically based on synthetic rubber or expanded polyethylene), which prevents moisture condensation on the pipe and minimises heat losses/gains during refrigerant transfer between the units – without quality insulation, there would be a significant drop in system efficiency and the formation of condensate (and subsequently mould) on the surface of pipes run, for example, in a suspended ceiling or in a wall.

During installation, it is important to ensure that the insulation continuously covers the piping along the entire length of the route, including joints and passages through structures, since even a short uncovered section can cause local moisture condensation. When running the piping outside the building (for example, across a facade to the outdoor unit), it is advisable to additionally protect the insulation from UV radiation and mechanical damage with a plastic strip or cover profile, which will also conceal the piping for aesthetic reasons.

Installation

Installation of refrigerant piping is an activity that may be carried out exclusively by a person holding a valid certification for working with fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases) – this is a legislative requirement arising from the EU F-gas regulation, not merely a manufacturer's recommendation. The installation process includes connecting and brazing (or mechanically joining via flare fittings, so-called flaring) the copper pipes to the outdoor and indoor units, then evacuating the entire circuit to remove air and moisture, performing a pressure leak test with nitrogen, and finally opening the valves and starting up the system. Incorrectly performed installation (for example, insufficient evacuation, a leaking joint or damaged insulation) can significantly reduce the performance and lifespan of the entire air conditioning system, even with high-quality outdoor and indoor unit components.

Before ordering a specific length and diameter of piping, we recommend verifying with the installation company or in the technical documentation of the specific air conditioning model the exact required diameters for both the liquid and gas lines, since for some models (especially those with multiple indoor units in a climaVAIR multi multisplit configuration), the pipe diameter may change even within a single route at the branch point to individual indoor units (so-called reducing branch fittings, refnet joints or distributors).

Compatibility

The piping is suitable for all Vaillant climaVAIR pro (monosplit models VAIB1-025WNO/WNI to VAIB1-065WNO/WNI) and climaVAIR multi (multisplit outdoor units from the VAM1 range with two to five indoor units) air conditioning systems, also available at atria.sk. Since this is standard copper refrigeration piping with a common industrial diameter of 1/2" (12.7 mm), it can also be used with other air conditioning brands using the same pipe diameter for the given line (ask your installation technician about the exact diameter required for your specific model, as brands and model ranges may differ in this detail).

Why buy the piping together with the air conditioning unit

By ordering the refrigerant piping directly together with the outdoor and indoor air conditioning units (or when purchasing additional piping for an existing system) in one place – atria.sk – you ensure material compatibility as well as simpler delivery logistics for the installation company, which does not have to source the piping from another supplier or wait for it to be delivered separately from the units themselves. Original branded Vaillant piping also meets the purity and quality parameters suitable for sensitive refrigerant circuits using the modern R32 refrigerant, which requires higher pipe purity than older refrigerants.

Storage and handling before installation

Until installation, we recommend storing the piping in a dry, covered space, ideally still wrapped in its original packaging/film, to prevent moisture or dirt from entering the open ends of the pipes. The ends of the piping should remain sealed (capped) until the moment of brazing or making the joint, so that no air, moisture or dust enters the system – their presence in the refrigerant circuit can cause corrosion, freezing of the expansion valve, or a reduction in system performance after commissioning.

Overview of the entire Vaillant refrigerant piping range

At atria.sk you will find Vaillant refrigerant piping in all commonly used diameters for climaVAIR air conditioning units – 1/4" (6.35 mm) and 3/8" (9.52 mm) for liquid lines of smaller and medium models, 1/2" (12.7 mm, this product) and 5/8" (15.88 mm) for gas lines of medium to the largest models. Each diameter is available in two coil lengths – 10 metres for shorter residential routes and 25 metres for longer or more complex routes, including multi-storey installations. This range structure allows installation companies to order exactly the combination of diameter and length required by a specific project, without having to buy an unnecessarily long package and then cut off and waste the surplus piping and insulation.

For larger multisplit installations (the climaVAIR multi range with an outdoor VAM1 unit connected to 2 to 5 indoor units), several different pipe diameters are commonly combined within a single installation in practice – the main route from the outdoor unit to the first branch point (refnet) tends to be of larger diameter, while the individual branches to smaller indoor units beyond the branch point may be of smaller diameter. We always recommend verifying the exact combination of diameters for a specific combination of outdoor and indoor units in the installation documentation of the given model or directly with the installation company.

Common mistakes when selecting and installing refrigerant piping

Among the most common mistakes that can be avoided in advance when ordering and installing refrigerant piping are underestimating the required route length (and subsequently having to buy an additional piece of piping with an extra joint, which increases the risk of leakage), using an incorrect diameter that does not match the given air conditioning model, insufficient insulation coverage at points where the piping passes through building structures, and underestimating the protection of the outdoor section of piping against UV radiation and mechanical damage. Quality installation, including thorough evacuation and a pressure leak test before starting up the system, is a fundamental prerequisite for long-term trouble-free operation of the air conditioning system and for maintaining the warranty on the entire system – even high-quality components of the outdoor and indoor units cannot compensate for poorly performed installation of the refrigerant circuit.

R32 refrigerant and pipe purity requirements

Modern Vaillant climaVAIR pro and climaVAIR multi air conditioning units operate with R32 refrigerant, which has a lower global warming potential (GWP) compared to the older R410A, but at the same time places somewhat higher demands on the purity and dryness of the refrigerant circuit during installation. The presence of moisture, air or impurities in the piping when the system is commissioned can cause the formation of acids in the circuit, corrosion of internal compressor components, or blockage of the capillary tube/expansion valve by ice at low temperatures. This is why it is recommended to use original, manufacturer-approved refrigeration piping with guaranteed internal purity (so-called ACR quality), such as this Vaillant piping, instead of cheaper alternatives of unknown origin without any guarantee of the quality of the pipe's internal surface finish.

Environmental and economic aspects of choosing quality piping

Leaking or poorly installed refrigerant piping is one of the most common causes of gradual refrigerant leakage from split air conditioning systems, which has a twofold negative impact – economic (the need for repeated refrigerant top-ups, a drop in performance and higher electricity consumption with insufficient charge) and environmental (leakage of fluorinated greenhouse gases into the atmosphere, which is why the EU legislatively restricts work with F-gases to qualified persons with the relevant certification). Investing in quality original piping and professional installation therefore pays off in the long run – it reduces the risk of complaints, service interventions and premature failure of air conditioning system components.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Which Vaillant air conditioning models is this 1/2" diameter piping suitable for?

The 1/2" (12.7 mm) diameter is most commonly used in practice as the gas (suction) line for medium and larger climaVAIR pro monosplit models (for example VAIB1-050WNO or VAIB1-065WNO), or for some lines within climaVAIR multi multisplit systems. We recommend verifying the exact required diameter for your specific model in the installation manual or with your installation company.

Can I install the piping myself?

No. Connecting the refrigerant piping, brazing or mechanically joining it, evacuating the circuit and checking tightness must be carried out exclusively by a person holding a valid certification for working with fluorinated greenhouse gases (F-gases). This is a legal requirement, not just a recommendation – failure to comply can lead to loss of warranty on the entire air conditioning system and also poses a safety risk.

What happens if the pipe insulation is not sufficiently covered along its entire length?

An uncovered or damaged section of insulation will cause local condensation of air moisture on the surface of the pipe, which can gradually lead to leaking, stains on building structures and, in the worst case, mould formation. We therefore recommend ensuring continuous insulation coverage during installation, including joints and passages through walls or suspended ceilings.

What is the difference between the 10-metre and 25-metre package?

It is the same piping of the same diameter, differing only in the length of the wound coil. The 10-metre package is sufficient for standard residential installations with a short route between the outdoor and indoor units, while the 25-metre package is suitable for longer routes, for example when the outdoor unit is placed further away or in multi-storey buildings.

Do I need to purchase anything else in addition to this piping?

For most installations, you will also need to purchase a connecting communication and power cable between the outdoor and indoor units (usually part of the installation materials supplied by the installation company), and possibly a mounting bracket or rubber pads for securing the outdoor unit – both are available separately in our range of accessories for Vaillant air conditioning units.

How long can the piping be stored before installation?

When stored in a dry, covered space with the pipe ends sealed (capped), the shelf life of the piping is not time-limited within the usual period between purchase and construction. It is only important to prevent moisture and dirt from entering the open ends and to avoid mechanical damage to the insulation during storage and transport.

A Avatar of author 06/08/2026 08:03
