Vaillant eloBLOCK VE 24/14 EU III is a powerful wall-mounted electric boiler with an output of 24 kW, designed for larger family houses, two-generation houses or properties with a pool or extension up to approx. 230-240 m². It is the second most powerful model in the range, often chosen as a replacement for an older electric boiler with similar output, with sufficient power reserve even for more demanding heating seasons and lower outdoor temperatures, when a classic heat pump loses part of its output and efficiency.

The boiler is designed for installation into a heating circuit with radiators, underfloor heating or their combination, and comes with everything needed for immediate connection - a highly efficient circulation pump, expansion vessel, safety valve, pressure gauge, thermometer and a digital control and information system on the front panel. This makes installation fast and does not require purchasing any additional components for the primary circuit.

The control electronics of the VE 24/14 boiler continuously evaluate the flow temperature and system pressure, and switch between individual output stages of the heating element according to current demand - this way the boiler doesn't operate unnecessarily at full power when half or a third of the output is sufficient, saving electricity even during long-term operation. The boiler is designed exclusively for a closed heating circuit (not for instantaneous domestic water heating) - however, in combination with an indirect DHW cylinder, it can also fully provide domestic hot water for the household.

 

Installation and electrical connection


The VE 24/14 model connects to a three-phase 400 V/50 Hz supply, and the supply must be protected by a 40 A circuit breaker - the exact cable dimension and type of circuit breaker (characteristic B or C, depending on the distribution network) must be designed and implemented by a qualified electrician with a valid inspection report, since this is an appliance with high current draw. We recommend consulting the sizing of the house's main protective device (main circuit breaker before the electricity meter) with the electricity distributor in advance, especially if you plan to combine the boiler with other high-consumption appliances (heat pump, cooker, electric vehicle charger).

When installing, we also recommend considering the following points:

  • Using a low night-time tariff (dual tariff meter) - if the house has a dual-tariff electricity meter with a relay installed, the boiler can use cheaper night-time electricity to heat up the building's thermal mass or the DHW cylinder.
  • Placing the boiler as close as possible to the heating circuit distribution, to minimise heat losses in the piping and the length of the electrical supply.
  • Ensuring sufficient space around the boiler for service access and ventilation of the boiler room.
  • Adding a room thermostat or Vaillant weather-compensated control (e.g. sensoCOMFORT VRC 720 or VRT 350f) for more precise and more economical temperature control in individual rooms.

 

Use, compatibility and control


The VE 24/14 electric boiler is fully compatible with common heating systems - radiators (panel and ladder-type), underfloor heating, or their combination using a mixing station. The boiler can be complemented with an indirect domestic hot water cylinder (for example the VIH or uniSTOR ranges), creating a complete source of heat and hot water for the household. Control can be extended with room thermostats, weekly programmers, or modern weather-compensated control with a mobile app output, which evaluates the outdoor temperature and regulates the heating water temperature accordingly - this significantly increases comfort and operating savings.

If you are not sure whether an output of 24 kW will be sufficient for your property, our range also includes the higher-output eloBLOCK VE 28/14 model. Conversely, for smaller properties we recommend the eloBLOCK VE 21/14 model, which is sufficient for a smaller heated area at a lower purchase and operating price.

 

The boiler is also suitable as:

  • The main heat source when there is no gas connection or where the burning of solid fuels is prohibited in the given location.
  • A supplementary/backup source alongside a heat pump, especially in a bivalent setup at very low outdoor temperatures.
  • A temporary solution during renovation, until a gas connection or other permanent source is implemented.
  • A solution for holiday properties - cottages and cabins, where consumption occurs only occasionally and investing in a gas connection would not be worthwhile.

 

Maintenance and servicing


The eloBLOCK VE 24/14 electric boiler is a virtually maintenance-free heat source compared to gas condensing boilers or solid fuel boilers - it does not contain a burner, flue, or chimney that would need regular cleaning. Nevertheless, we recommend:

  • Having an annual service inspection performed by a qualified technician - checking the tightness of the circuit, the function of the safety valve, the pressure in the expansion vessel, and the condition of the heating element.
  • Monitoring the heating water pressure on the boiler's pressure gauge, and topping up the system according to the instructions in the operating manual if the pressure drops below the recommended value.
  • In areas with harder water, consider treating the fill water (softening/demineralisation), which extends the life of the heating element and reduces the risk of scale deposits.
  • Keeping free space around the boiler and not covering the ventilation openings of the casing.

Assuming a model scenario of approximately 1700 hours of equivalent full-power operation during the heating season (typical for larger family houses, two-generation houses, or properties with a pool or extension up to approx. 230-240 m²), the annual consumption of the VE 24/14 model would reach approximately 40,800 kWh, which at current electricity prices ranging from approx. 0.18 - 0.28 €/kWh (depending on tariff and supplier) represents approximate annual costs of around 7,344 - 11,424 €.

Actual consumption can be significantly reduced by using dual-tariff metering with a night relay (shifting consumption to the cheaper night-time band), high-quality building insulation, weather-compensated control based on outdoor temperature, and reasonable temperature setback settings during absence or at night. Yes, the VE 24/14 boiler is designed as a fully-fledged standalone heating source for larger family houses, two-generation houses, or properties with a pool or extension up to approx. 230-240 m². No additional boiler or supplementary heating is needed, provided the output is correctly sized to the heat loss of the property.

Do I need an electrical inspection report before connecting the boiler?

Yes, due to the high current draw (40 A fuse protection), the supply and the boiler connection itself must be carried out by a qualified electrician, and the installation must comply with applicable STN standards. Without an inspection report, the service technician will not put the boiler into operation.

Can the boiler be connected to a night tariff (dual tariff relay)?

Yes, the boiler can be connected via a dual-tariff relay so that most of the consumption is shifted to the cheaper night-time band - together with a buffer tank or greater thermal inertia of the building, this can achieve noticeable savings on the electricity bill.

Is it possible to connect a hot water cylinder to the boiler?

Yes, the boiler is ready for connection of an external indirect DHW cylinder (e.g. the Vaillant VIH or uniSTOR ranges) via the 3/4" heating circuit connections, so it can also handle domestic hot water preparation for the whole household.

What is the difference between an electric boiler and an electric convector heater?

An electric boiler (eloBLOCK range) heats water, which then circulates to radiators or underfloor heating throughout the whole house - it is a central heat source. An electric convector heater (eloMENT range) is a standalone heating unit without a water distribution system, which heats directly only the room in which it is installed.

Can the VE 24/14 boiler be connected in a cascade with another electric boiler?

In the case of very high heat loss or a need for backup, several eloBLOCK electric boilers can be connected in a cascade arrangement - in such a case, we recommend leaving the design to a heating designer, who will also take into account the required capacity of the house's electrical connection.

Doesn't a 40 A fuse protection mean too much of a load for a standard household electrical installation?

This is a standard requirement for this output stage - before installing the VE 24/14 model, it is always necessary to verify sufficient capacity of the main circuit breaker and, if necessary, the capacity of the connection with the electricity distributor, which is a common step for any larger electrical load in a house.
