Outdoor unit:
At first glance it is clear that the outdoor unit has undergone a radical change, starting with the design and structural elements, and thus also optimisation for any climatic conditions. An unconventional approach to frost protection is offered in the form of a free-hanging heat-exchanger concept. This eliminates the formation of frost, removes the need to heat the condensate tray, which in turn saves on electricity costs.
In addition, the modified exhaust grille and the removal of the side grille from the unit further increases the Daikin Altherma's resilience in various climatic conditions.
To achieve the best possible energy efficiency, Daikin uses much more efficient compressors in its units, optimised for each output class separately; a pressure sensor is also used to evaluate the optimal subcooling requirement during operation, together with a new type of PCB that has lower power consumption than the original.
Indoor unit - wall-mounted:
In addition to developments in frost protection, compressor optimisation, and the free-hanging heat-exchanger concept, focus was also placed on innovating the indoor units. Both the wall-mounted hydrobox and the integrated design offer a genuine plug and play system. This means all hydraulic and electrical components are already part of the unit, which makes installation very simple.
Last but not least, the casing itself has also been reworked - the stability of the hydrobox is much higher, which makes working with it much easier. The wall-mounted indoor unit has been redesigned for a more modern and timeless look. A current trend is minimising the dimensions of technical equipment while retaining maximum efficiency and functionality. The compact casing with dimensions of 888x480x370 mm is proof of that.
A bonus is front service access to all hydraulic components and the PCB, without any need for side service access. The wall-mounted hydrobox can be connected to the heating system, a DHW cylinder as well as to a solar system. Combined with our Daikin heat-storage cylinders, available in sizes from 150 to 300 litres, the maximum amount of solar energy can be used to support the heat pump when producing DHW.

- What does COP mean and why is it important? COP (Coefficient of Performance) indicates the ratio between the heat delivered and the electrical energy consumed at a given outdoor and indoor temperature - e.g. a COP of 4 means that from 1 kWh of electricity the pump produces 4 kWh of heat. A higher value means lower operating electricity consumption.
- Does the heat pump also work in frost? Yes, modern air-to-water heat pumps also work at sub-zero outdoor temperatures, although their efficiency (COP) decreases as the outdoor temperature drops - which is why they are often supplemented with backup electric heating during extreme frosts.
- Can a heat pump also be used for cooling? With models that have a cooling function, yes - in summer the system can run in reverse and cool the room, similar to air conditioning.
- Must installation be carried out by a professional? Yes, installation involves working with the refrigerant circuit (which requires F-gas certification), as well as connecting to the heating system and the mains electricity supply - DIY installation is neither possible nor legal.
