How the removal of nitrates and sulfates from water works

Filtration of nitrates, nitrites and sulfates using the HydroTreat ELITE Nitrate unit works on the principle of ion exchange. Water passes through the ANEX Pure filtration media, which captures nitrate, nitrite and sulfate ions and replaces them with chlorides.

Once the capacity of the filtration media is exhausted, the unit automatically regenerates using a salt solution. During regeneration, the resin releases the captured ions and becomes saturated with chlorides again, making it ready for further water treatment.

When designing the unit, it is important to know the current levels of nitrates, nitrites, sulfates and chlorides in the water. This is because chloride content may increase after treatment, so it is advisable to size the unit based on a water analysis.
