10A MPPT controller for lead-acid batteries with 12V system voltage and for PV panels with max. output of 130W, max. input voltage of 45V and min. input voltage of 15.8V. It is primarily intended for panels with a 12V system voltage, which generate 16–18V at maximum load.
Brief description of MPPT controllers:
MPPT controllers use an internal converter to adjust the V-A characteristic of the current source - the solar panel - so that it is optimal for charging the battery. This means they can use the energy from solar panels better than PWM controllers, which regulate charging only by pulse-limiting the direct connection between the solar panel and the battery, where the pulse width is proportional to the state of the battery being charged. In other words, an MPPT controller can generate the ideal voltage and current for charging the battery from a higher voltage and lower current source. For example, it converts 18V/5A into 14.5V/6.2A. The conversion efficiency of the V-A characteristic is usually above 95%, so losses are minimal, and the controllers can generally be adjusted for different types of batteries to make charging as optimal as possible.
