MPPT controller 15A for lead-acid batteries with a system voltage of 12V and for PV panels with a max. power of 200W, max. input voltage of 35V and min. input voltage of 15.8V. It is primarily designed for panels with a system voltage of 12V, which generate 16–18V at maximum load. This controller uses an internal converter to adjust the V-A characteristic of the current source-solar panel so that it is optimal for battery charging. It can therefore use the energy from the solar panels more efficiently than a PWM controller, which regulates charging only by pulse-limiting the direct connection between the solar panel and the battery, where the pulse width is proportional to the state of the battery being charged. In other words, the MPPT controller can generate ideal voltage and current for battery charging from a higher voltage and lower current source. For example, it converts 18V/5A into 14.5V/6.2A. The conversion efficiency of the V-A characteristic is usually above 95%, so losses are minimal, and the controllers can generally be adapted to different types of batteries so that charging is as optimal as possible.
