In practice, this means that the boiler can adapt itself to fluctuating natural gas quality in the network (varying gas composition from different extraction sources, seasonal changes) without the need for manual combustion adjustment by a service technician for every deviation. The IoniDetect system also enables safe operation even with an admixture of hydrogen in natural gas of up to 20% by volume – a parameter that is becoming increasingly important with the gradual development of green gas distribution as part of heating decarbonization.
Thanks to continuous automatic combustion optimization, the boiler maintains its declared high efficiency over the long term without the need for frequent service interventions focused specifically on combustion settings, which reduces operating service costs throughout the device's service life.
Condensing technology and energy efficiency
Like every condensing boiler, the ecoTEC plus VU 10CS/1-5 also utilizes the latent (condensation) heat of the flue gases in addition to their sensible heat – the water vapor generated during natural gas combustion condenses on the heat exchanger, and the released condensation heat is returned to the heating circuit. This allows the boiler to achieve a standardized heat utilization rate (relative to the calorific value of the fuel) of up to 109.5%, i.e. a value exceeding 100%, which a conventional (non-condensing) boiler cannot achieve in principle. In practice, when switching from an older non-condensing boiler, this translates into fuel savings ranging from single digits to the lower tens of percent, depending on the specific system and set temperature gradients – the lower the temperature gradient of the heating system (typically with underfloor heating or oversized radiators), the higher the degree of utilization of the condensation heat.
The high seasonal heating efficiency of the boiler corresponds to energy class A (the heating appliance itself under the ErP regulation); in combination with a suitable room or weather-compensating controller (for example Vaillant sensoCOMFORT or VRT 350f), the energy label of the entire heating package (boiler + control, possibly + solar system) can reach up to the highest class A+++.
Design, dimensions and installation flexibility
The boiler has compact external dimensions of 720 × 440 × 348 mm (height × width × depth) and a low weight (approximately 32 kg for this smallest output variant of the range), which makes handling during installation easier as well as the selection of a suitable installation location – the boiler is typically installed on the wall of a utility room, kitchen alcove, bathroom or attic space, where thanks to its design it takes up almost no floor space. The hydraulic connections of the heating circuit use a G 3/4" thread, and the gas connection uses a pipe with a diameter of 15 mm. The maximum operating pressure of the heating water is 0.3 MPa (3.0 bar), the maximum outlet temperature is 85 °C with a factory-adjustable range of 15 – 80 °C (typically set to 75 °C from the factory).
Flue gas discharge and combustion air supply are handled by a concentric (coaxial) Ø 60/100 mm system, which is a common and proven solution for venting through a façade or roof without the need for a separate chimney. In accordance with applicable legislation, installation, connection to the gas supply, electrical network, flue gas discharge, and commissioning may only be carried out by a professionally qualified person – an authorized service technician or an installation company with the relevant authorization to work with gas appliances. Proper commissioning also includes setting the combustion parameters, checking the tightness of the gas supply, checking the draft and tightness of the flue gas discharge, filling and venting the heating system, and setting the control parameters according to the specific characteristics of the heating system (radiators versus underfloor heating, or a combination of both via a mixing unit). Full manufacturer's warranty is maintained only if commissioning is properly carried out by an authorized technician and recorded in the warranty certificate.
