At higher outputs or with more complex discharge routes (longer runs, more direction changes, shared chimney for multiple boilers), a coaxial pipe of 60/100 mm can no longer be used efficiently – the flow resistance would be too high and the boiler output would be limited. That's why in these cases a separate (twin-pipe) system with a diameter of 80 mm is used, where air intake and flue gas discharge run through two separate pipes, which can even follow different routes (for example, flue gas discharge above the roof and air intake through a side wall). This system is technically referred to as Ø80/Ø80 or C83/C93 depending on the outlet configuration, and is common with boiler cascades, higher-output boilers, or where a greater distance to the facade or roof must be covered.

The components of the separated ATTACK KT system with a diameter of 80 mm are made of polypropylene (PP) – a material that is long-term resistant to the acidic condensate produced during flue gas condensation, has low weight and a low friction coefficient, which reduces pressure losses over longer runs. By combining multiple 1 m pieces, the exact length of both branches can be adjusted according to the room layout and route to the roof or facade – just as with the coaxial system, the sum of the lengths of straight sections and the equivalent lengths of elbows must not exceed the maximum specified in the manual for the specific boiler (for the separated system, this is generally significantly higher, since pressure losses with two separate Ø80 pipes are lower than with a coaxial 60/100 mm duct).

Step-by-step installation procedure

  1. Calculate the required number of metre-long pieces separately for the exhaust and intake branches according to the actual route length.
  2. Connect the components using the plug-in system, checking the correct insertion direction according to the markings.
  3. On the exhaust branch, maintain a slope of at least 3° toward the boiler or condensate trap along the entire length.
  4. Support longer sections with clamps at intervals according to the installation manual so that the pipe does not sag over time.
  5. After connecting both branches, check the tightness of the joints along the entire route.

Material and construction

Polypropylene is a material that is long-term resistant to the acidic condensate produced during condensation of water vapour from flue gases – unlike metal materials, it does not corrode even with permanent contact with low-pH condensate. It also has low weight, which simplifies installation over longer routes, and a low friction coefficient on the inner surface, resulting in lower pressure losses over longer sections compared to metal pipes of a comparable diameter.

Compatibility with ATTACK boilers

The PR45 component is designed for the connection system common to the entire range of wall-mounted condensing boilers ATTACK ACKT20, ACKT28 and ACKT48 (Condensing KT series), ATTACK KST24 (Condensing KST) and ATTACK KZT25 (Condensing KZT). Installation and warnings

Ø80 pipes are connected using the same plug-in system as coaxial components, with the seal included in the joint. On horizontal sections of the exhaust branch, a slope of at least 3° toward the boiler is maintained, and longer sections are mechanically supported with clamps (usually every 1–1.5 m) according to the installation manual.

In general, horizontal sections of the discharge route must have a slope of at least 3° toward the boiler or the nearest condensate trap, so that condensate does not accumulate in the pipe. Installation should be performed by a person qualified to install gas appliances and their discharge systems, in accordance with the installation manual for the specific boiler and with the STN EN 15287 standard.

Standards and safety requirements

The installation of flue gas discharge for condensing boilers in Slovakia is governed primarily by the STN EN 15287 standard (Chimneys – Design, installation and commissioning of chimneys – Part 1: Chimneys for fan-assisted appliances), which sets minimum distances of the outlet from windows, ventilation openings, neighbouring properties and ground level, as well as the minimum height of the outlet above the roof plane. The boiler itself and its discharge system must also meet the requirements of STN EN 483 (type C gas boilers) and be installed in accordance with the technical and operating regulations (TPP) applicable to gas equipment.

Installation may only be carried out by a person qualified to install and service gas appliances, who will issue an inspection report or commissioning protocol upon completion. In case of any change to the route compared to the originally approved design (e.g. additional extension of the route, change in the number of elbows), it is necessary to check whether the boiler is still within the parameters permitted by the manufacturer – otherwise there is a risk not only of boiler malfunction but also loss of warranty and, in extreme cases, a safety risk of flue gas leakage.

Maintenance and service inspection

Straight Ø80 sections do not wear out when properly installed (slope, mechanical fastening with clamps). For longer horizontal sections, it is recommended to check the sagging and condition of the clamp fixings during a service inspection.

The recommended inspection interval for the entire discharge route is once a year, usually as part of a regular boiler service inspection carried out by an authorised service technician. On this occasion, this specific component is also checked, along with the patency of the condensate path and the overall condition of the joints along the entire route from the boiler to the outlet outside the building.

Typical usage scenarios

Scenario 1 – extending both branches of the separated system through the attic: after the distributor, both the exhaust and intake branches continue vertically to the roof, with the required number of metres of Ø80 pipe used equally on both sides.

Scenario 2 – routing the intake branch through a side wall with exhaust through the roof: the exhaust branch rises to the roof, while the intake branch is routed separately through a short horizontal section of Ø80 pipe through the side wall of the utility room.

The exact value depends on the specific boiler model (ACKT20, ACKT28, ACKT48, KST24 or KZT25) and is stated in the installation manual – it is generally an equivalent length of 10–15 m, with a 90° elbow counted as approx. 1–1.5 m and a 45° elbow as approx. 0.5 m of straight pipe. Exceeding the limit increases resistance and may cause a boiler fault message.

Why does water actually drip from the flue gas discharge?
A condensing boiler cools the flue gases enough that the water vapour contained in them condenses – it is precisely from this additional heat that the boiler gains its high efficiency. The resulting condensate is slightly acidic and must be drained through the condensate trap into the boiler's siphon; that's why all horizontal pipe sections have a prescribed slope toward the boiler or the trap.

Can the coaxial 60/100 mm pipe be combined with the separated Ø80/Ø80 system?

Výrobný areál spoločnosti sa nacháza v severnej časti stredného Slovenska, cca 20 km od mesta Žilina.
