Detailed information

Product detailed description

ATTACK PLUS horizontal condensate trap, diameter 60/100, AL is part of the original ATTACK KT / KT PLUS flue gas exhaust and combustion air intake system, designed for ATTACK Condensing wall-mounted condensing gas boilers. This part belongs to the category: condensate trap – horizontal design, diameter 60/100 mm, aluminium (AL) material.

Closed combustion chamber and flue gas exhaust in ATTACK condensing boilers

ATTACK condensing gas boilers work with a closed (turbo) combustion chamber – unlike older atmospheric boilers, they do not need air from the room where they are installed, nor a functional masonry chimney. They draw combustion air directly from outside the building and discharge flue gases outside also by forced draught, provided by a fan built into the boiler. In practice, this closed circuit is solved in two ways: with coaxial (concentric) piping, where a smaller pipe for air intake runs inside a larger pipe and the annular space is used for flue gas exhaust, or with a separate system using two independent pipes. The coaxial design with a diameter of 60/100 mm is the most common solution for boilers up to approx. 35 kW, as it allows both exhaust and intake to be routed through a single opening in the wall or roof, is quick to install and is aesthetically unobtrusive.

Every element of the exhaust assembly – elbow, extension, condensate trap, chimney terminal and distributor – must be tight, resistant to flue gas temperatures and to the condensate that occurs in large quantities during operation of a condensing boiler, precisely because the boiler is able to utilise the latent heat of the water vapour in the flue gases. This condensate is exactly why the ATTACK KT system cannot be safely replaced with a standard chimney part designed for atmospheric boilers – such parts are not designed for permanent contact with acidic condensate or for the correct slope that directs the condensate back into the boiler or into the trap.

Condensate trap – why it is essential in the assembly

The condensate trap is a component installed at the lowest point of the exhaust route – usually right behind the boiler or at the base of a vertical section leading to the roof or outside through the facade. Its purpose is to catch condensate that flows down the walls of the pipe and direct it through a drainage connector (usually with a DN16–DN20 hose) into the boiler's siphon or into the sewer. Without a trap, condensate could leak back into the boiler uncontrollably on longer vertical sections, or escape through joint leaks if the slope is incorrect.

Structurally, it is a short branch component with an integrated collecting space at the bottom and an outlet with a hose connector. In the horizontal design, the trap is installed directly into the horizontal section of the exhaust (for example, right behind the boiler, if the boiler outlet is on the side), while the vertical design is inserted into a rising (or falling) vertical section, typically at a passage between floors or before exiting through the roof.

Example of typical connection in a real installation:
boiler → 90° elbow → vertical riser pipe → condensate trap (vertical) → further extension → chimney through the roof.

Step-by-step installation procedure

  1. Check that the location of the trap is actually the lowest point of the given section of the route – if not, condensate from higher points will not be reliably captured.
  2. Install the part in the direction of flow according to the markings, seal the joints with the integrated gasket and check that the trap is positioned exactly horizontally/vertically according to its design (horizontal vs. vertical).
  3. Connect the drain hose to the connector and route it with a slope towards the boiler's siphon, without any kinks that could obstruct free drainage.
  4. Before the first start-up of the boiler, fill the siphon with water and visually check the tightness of all joints above and below the trap.
  5. After the first days of operation, check that the condensate is actually draining and not accumulating in the pipe above the trap.

Material and construction

The aluminium design is used for coaxial parts that are in direct contact with hot flue gases and with condensate. Aluminium is lightweight, does not corrode on contact with acidic condensate (unlike ordinary galvanised steel without further treatment) and withstands temperature fluctuations at boiler start-up and shutdown well. The joints are sealed with a silicone or EPDM gasket resistant to flue gas temperatures from a condensing boiler (typically up to approx. 120 °C) and to moisture.

System classification: coaxial (concentric). Design: horizontal.

Compatibility with ATTACK boilers

Part PR34 is designed for the connection system common to the entire range of ATTACK wall-mounted condensing boilers ACKT20, ACKT28 and ACKT48 (Condensing KT series), ATTACK KST24 (Condensing KST) and ATTACK KZT25 (Condensing KZT). Before ordering, we recommend checking the exact type of connection port and the maximum permitted exhaust route length in the installation manual for the specific boiler model, as this may vary slightly depending on the boiler output (20, 28 or 48 kW for the KT series).

Installation and warnings

The condensate trap is always installed at the lowest point of the relevant section of the route, with a minimum slope of 3° towards the collecting space. The drain connector is connected with a hose (resistant to temperature and condensate) to the boiler's siphon or to an external neutralisation device, if part of the installation. Before the first start-up of the boiler, the siphon must be filled with water to prevent flue gases from entering the room through the drainage path, and the drainage patency should be checked regularly (at least once a year, during a service inspection).

In general, horizontal exhaust sections must have a minimum slope of 3° towards the boiler or the nearest condensate trap, so that condensate does not accumulate in the pipe. Installation should be carried out by a person professionally qualified to install gas appliances and their exhaust systems, in accordance with the installation manual for the specific boiler and with the standard STN EN 15287.

Standards and safety requirements

Installation of flue gas exhaust for condensing boilers in Slovakia is governed primarily by the standard STN EN 15287 (Chimneys – Design, installation and commissioning of chimneys – Part 1: Chimneys for fan assisted appliances), which sets minimum distances of the terminal from windows, ventilation openings, neighbouring properties and ground level, as well as the minimum height of the terminal above the roof plane. The boiler itself and its exhaust system must also meet the requirements of STN EN 483 (type C gas boilers) and be installed in accordance with the technical operating regulations applicable to gas appliances.

Installation may only be carried out by a person professionally qualified to install and service gas appliances, who, upon completion, issues an inspection report or commissioning protocol. In case of any change to the route compared to the originally approved design (e.g. additional extension of the route, change in the number of elbows), it is necessary to check whether the boiler is still within the parameters permitted by the manufacturer – otherwise there is a risk not only of boiler malfunction but also of loss of warranty, and in extreme cases a safety risk of flue gas leakage.

Maintenance and service inspection

Maintenance of this part consists primarily of regular checks of the patency of the drain connector and the hose leading to the boiler's siphon. During the boiler's service inspection (recommended once a year), the technician usually also checks this part – verifying that no deposits are forming in the collecting space that could gradually restrict condensate drainage, and that the hose joints are still tight.

The recommended inspection interval for the entire exhaust route is once a year, usually as part of the regular boiler service inspection performed by an authorised service technician. On this occasion, this specific part is also checked, along with the patency of the condensate path and the overall condition of the joints along the entire route from the boiler to the outlet outside the building.

Typical usage scenarios

Scenario 1 – boiler in the basement with a short horizontal outlet: the boiler outlet is on the side, followed immediately by a horizontal section to the perimeter wall. In this case, the condensate trap is installed directly into this horizontal section to catch condensate before the pipe leaves the building.

Scenario 2 – boiler in the attic with a vertical rise to the roof: right behind the boiler, the route rises upwards to the roof passage. The condensate trap is inserted into the vertical section at the base of the rise, to catch condensate flowing down from the entire length of the vertical route above it before it returns to the boiler.

Related parts in the ATTACK KT range

Within the range of ATTACK KT exhaust parts, this horizontal condensate trap is complemented by the vertical design PR34A (same diameter 60/100 mm, same AL material, difference only in installation orientation) and by the outdoor design PR60, which is designed for installation outside the heated space. The choice between them is determined solely by the location in the route where condensate needs to be captured – not by the technical performance of the part.

A complete overview of all parts of the ATTACK KT / KT PLUS flue gas exhaust system (elbows, extensions, chimney terminals, condensate traps and distributors for diameters 60/100 mm and 80 mm) can be found in the category Condensing boilers > flue exhaust, flue pipes > accessories by brand > Attack on this e-shop.

Summary

ATTACK PLUS horizontal condensate trap, diameter 60/100, AL (code PR34) is a part of the type condensate trap – horizontal design with a diameter of 60/100 mm made of aluminium (AL) material, belonging to the coaxial (concentric) system. Recommended installation orientation: horizontal. The part is designed for ATTACK ACKT20, ACKT28 and ACKT48 boilers (Condensing KT series), ATTACK KST24 (Condensing KST) and ATTACK KZT25 (Condensing KZT) and is part of the wider range of ATTACK KT exhaust parts available on this e-shop, allowing a complete flue gas exhaust route to be assembled exactly according to the layout of the specific installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is a horizontal condensate trap more suitable than a vertical one for a boiler with a side (horizontal) outlet?
If the boiler or the nearest section of the route runs horizontally, it is more practical to install the trap directly into this horizontal section (e.g. PR34) instead of unnecessarily bending the route just to fit a vertical design. The horizontal trap has its drain connector positioned to collect condensate flowing from the entire following section of pipe.

How much condensate can this part typically drain per hour of operation?
The exact amount depends on the boiler output and operating mode, but the collecting space and drain connector of the PR34 are dimensioned to easily drain condensate generated during normal operation of ACKT20 to ACKT48 boilers in condensing mode – the key factor is primarily the patency of the connected drain hose and siphon.

Do I need a functional chimney for an ATTACK condensing boiler?
No. ATTACK Condensing KT, KST and KZT condensing boilers have a closed combustion chamber with forced draught – they draw combustion air from outside and discharge flue gases through their own exhaust system (coaxial 60/100 mm or separate Ø80/Ø80). A masonry chimney is therefore not needed; a passage through the wall or roof for the plastic-aluminium piping is sufficient.

What is the maximum length of flue gas exhaust for a 60/100 mm coaxial pipe?
The exact value depends on the specific boiler model (ACKT20, ACKT28, ACKT48, KST24 or KZT25) and is stated in the installation manual – it is usually an equivalent length of 10–15 m, with a 90° elbow counted as approx. 1–1.5 m and a 45° elbow as approx. 0.5 m of straight pipe. Exceeding the limit increases resistance and can cause a boiler fault message.

Why does water actually drip from the flue gas exhaust?
A condensing boiler cools the flue gases enough that the water vapour they contain condenses – it is precisely from this additional heat that the boiler gains its high efficiency. The resulting condensate is slightly acidic and must be drained through the condensate trap into the boiler's siphon; that is why all horizontal sections of pipe must have the prescribed slope towards the boiler or the trap.

Can a 60/100 mm coaxial pipe be combined with a separate Ø80/Ø80 system?
Yes, that is exactly what a distributor (e.g. PR51, PR51A or PR51B) is for, which splits a single coaxial pipe from the boiler into two separate Ø80 mm pipes. It is used for longer routes or when the intake and exhaust need to be routed in different directions.

Can I combine parts of different diameters or from a different manufacturer with the ATTACK exhaust system?
It is recommended to use a certified system from the same manufacturer as stated in the manual for the specific boiler (for ATTACK Condensing boilers, this is the ATTACK KT/KT PLUS system). Combining parts of different diameters, materials or from other manufacturers may result in leaks, incorrect condensate drainage and loss of the boiler warranty.

How often should the exhaust piping and condensate trap be checked?
A visual check of joint tightness and the patency of the condensate trap is recommended at least once a year, ideally during the regular boiler service inspection. For facade or roof terminals, it is also necessary to check that the terminal grille is not clogged with leaves, insects or snow.

Is it necessary to insulate the flue gas exhaust?
When routed through a heated space, insulation is usually not necessary, as the surface temperature of the coaxial pipe is low. For longer sections routed through an unheated space (attic, facade) or where there is a risk of moisture condensation on the pipe surface, additional insulation is recommended, especially at the location of the condensate trap, to prevent it from freezing.

What happens if the flue gas exhaust is undersized or too long?
If the maximum equivalent exhaust length is exceeded or there are leaks, the boiler will usually report a fault related to flue gas/air flow (fan fault, pressure switch fault or flue path fault) and shut down for safety reasons. The solution is to recalculate the route according to the manual and make adjustments if necessary (shorter route, fewer elbows, or switching to a separate Ø80/Ø80 system).

Can this part also be used in a cascade connection of multiple boilers?
For cascades with multiple boilers, a separate Ø80/Ø80 system with a common collecting chimney is usually used, or with separate terminals for each boiler according to the cascade project documentation. The specific components (extensions, elbows, distributors) are also compatible in this connection, but minimum terminal distances must be observed according to STN EN 15287.

How do I find out exactly which parts I need for my installation?
The most reliable way is to refer to the installation manual for the specific boiler model (ACKT20/28/48, KST24, KZT25), which contains diagrams of typical connections and the maximum permitted lengths. For more complex or non-standard layouts (long route, passage through multiple floors, cascade), we recommend consulting an installation company or the seller directly before ordering the exact quantity.

Does condensate from the flue gas exhaust need to be neutralised before being discharged into the sewer?
For typical family homes with low boiler output, neutralisation is usually not required due to the small amount of condensate and its dilution with other wastewater, but the applicable legislation and the requirements of the local sewer operator must be observed. For higher outputs or boiler cascades, it is recommended to install a condensate neutralisation device before discharging it into the public sewer.

Is operation of a condensing boiler with this type of exhaust noisier than with a classic chimney?
Forced draught (from the boiler's fan) may be accompanied by slight operational noise, but with a correctly installed and mechanically secured route (without freely vibrating sections of pipe), this is minimal and usually comparable to or lower than the noise of a classic atmospheric boiler with chimney exhaust.

Can installation of this part be done by yourself, or is a professional required?
The mechanical connection of the parts (plug-in system) itself is simple, but connecting the exhaust to a condensing boiler, calculating the maximum route length and commissioning the boiler must be carried out by a person professionally qualified to install gas appliances – this is a manufacturer's condition as well as a legal requirement for maintaining the warranty and ensuring safe operation.

Does the number and type of these parts affect gas consumption or boiler efficiency?
They do not affect consumption directly, but they do indirectly – the greater the resistance of the exhaust route (many elbows, a long route close to the limit), the more energy the boiler's fan must expend to overcome this resistance, and the sooner the boiler may limit its output or report a fault. Designing the route with the smallest necessary number of parts is therefore also advisable from the point of view of operating economy.

Warranty

This part of the ATTACK exhaust system is covered by a 24-month warranty from the date of dispatch from the warehouse, the same as other accessories for ATTACK condensing boilers. In case of a claim, we recommend keeping the proof of purchase and, if necessary, photo documentation of the installation method, as with exhaust systems, functionality is closely linked to correct installation (maintaining the slope, maximum route length and distances according to the manual).
