Detailed information

Product detailed description

45° elbow Ø 200 mm is an original directional component of the Vaillant DN 200 PP flue system, which provides a gentler change of flue route direction than the 87° elbow. Thanks to the smaller deflection angle, it represents lower pressure resistance for flowing flue gases and in practice is used mainly for bypassing smaller obstacles, minor route deviation from the vertical axis, or connecting to an angled outlet through the roof or facade.

The Vaillant DN 200 PP flue system is an original component system for exhausting flue gases from large-capacity condensing boilers of the ecoCRAFT exclusiv series (and in some projects also from cascade assemblies of several Vaillant condensing boilers connected to a common flue gas collector). It is a single-wall plastic pipe made of durable polypropylene (PP), which, due to the low temperature of condensing technology flue gases (typically up to approx. 80 °C), is a fully-fledged and more cost-effective alternative to metal stainless steel flues used in older atmospheric or low-efficiency heat sources. The 45° elbow is often combined in a pair in the route - one elbow deflects the route by 45° to the side and the other returns it by the same angle back to the original direction, thus achieving a lateral shift of the route (so-called 'offset' bypass of an obstacle) without the need for a sharp 87° bend.

Technical characteristics

  • Direction change angle - 45°
  • Material - polypropylene (PP), resistant to flue gas condensate

  • Design - without an inspection/cleaning opening
  • Manufacturer's order number - 0020095557
  • Joint type - socket connection with sealing ring, compatible with other DN 200 PP components
  • Typical use - bypassing obstacles, lateral route shift (offset), connection to an angled outlet

Installation and use in the flue route

The 45° elbow is used wherever a gentler change of route direction is needed - for example when laterally bypassing a structural element, making a minor route correction in a shaft, or connecting to an angled outlet through the roof or facade. In practice they are often installed in pairs to create a lateral shift (offset) of the route without having to use a sharper 87° elbow. Installation is carried out via socket connection with a sealing ring, the same as with other components of the DN 200 PP system. The exact placement and orientation of the elbow is determined by the flue gas route design; installation should only be carried out by a professionally qualified company authorized to install condensing technology flue gas systems.

Compatibility and system placement

The elbow is fully compatible with other components of the DN 200 PP system listed in the overview table below. If you need a more significant change of direction (for example a transition from a vertical to a horizontal route), choose an 87° elbow or an inspection 87° elbow instead, if control access is also needed at that location. Like other components of this series, the elbow is not interchangeable with components of other diameters of Vaillant flue systems, such as DN 110/160 mm or DN 130 mm - always verify the exact diameter of your boiler's route before ordering.

When it's worth choosing 45° instead of the sharper 87° elbow

When designing the route of a flue system, the designer always tries to choose the smallest number and gentlest changes of direction that still meet the requirement to route from point A to point B around any structural obstacles. The 45° elbow represents a practical compromise in this regard between an elbow with a minimum angle of 30° (which requires a longer straight section to achieve the same lateral shift) and the sharper 87° elbow (which has a higher pressure drop, but achieves the required change of direction over a shorter section).

A typical use case for a pair of 45° elbows is bypassing a beam, a pipe of another installation, or another structural obstacle in a shaft, where the flue route must make a short lateral detour and then continue in the original direction. In this case, two 45° elbows are used with a short straight section between them - the resulting lateral shift depends on the length of this intermediate section, which can be fine-tuned using the available extensions of various lengths.

When connecting the route to an angled roof passage, the 45° elbow is also a common choice, since many standard roof slopes (for example around 30-45°) can be elegantly solved by a combination of a vertical route section and one 45° elbow connected directly to the angled passage, without the need for further additional adjustments or reductions.

Finally, it should be noted that the choice between a 30°, 45°, and 87° elbow is not a matter of aesthetic preference of the installation company, but should always be based on the specific geometric solution of the route designed in the flue gas route project - only this way is it guaranteed that the total pressure loss of the route remains within limits that still allow the ecoCRAFT exclusiv boiler's fan to achieve rated output and declared efficiency.

When calculating custom material, it is worth considering that pairs of 45° elbows used to create a lateral offset also require a suitably long straight intermediate piece (extension), the length of which directly determines the size of the achieved lateral shift - the longer the intermediate piece, the greater the lateral shift achieved with the same pair of 45° elbows. This combination of extension and two 45° elbows is a common solution especially when bypassing larger obstacles, where the pair of elbows alone without an intermediate piece would not be sufficient for an adequate lateral shift of the route.

Finally, when ordering custom material with multiple direction changes, we recommend consulting our team - based on the number and type of elbows, extensions, and inspection elements needed, we can prepare a complete list of materials for you so that you have everything you need available already on the first installation visit.

Maintenance, service and inspection

The 45° elbow does not require direct regular maintenance; its condition is verified indirectly during the annual inspection of the flue gas route via the nearest inspection access points along the route. For a pair of elbows forming a lateral offset, we recommend paying increased attention to checking the tightness of both joints, since these are two socket joints immediately one after the other. If leakage or mechanical damage is suspected, contact a service technician who can assess the condition of the elbow through the nearest inspection opening. If replacement is necessary, the elbow is simply pulled out of the socket joints and replaced with a new original component of the same diameter and angle.

Why choose an original Vaillant component

The gentler 45° angle means lower pressure resistance at the point of direction change than the sharper 87° elbow, which is an advantage especially on longer routes with multiple direction changes, where the pressure losses of individual components add up. The original Vaillant component has a precisely defined angle and diameter corresponding to the certification of the entire ecoCRAFT exclusiv system, which guarantees correct flue gas flow and preservation of the boiler warranty as well as the flue gas route warranty. As a verified supplier of original Vaillant components (WINTNER s.r.o.), we can guarantee the origin and quality of every elbow supplied.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions - Vaillant 45° elbow, Ø 200 mm

When to choose a 45° elbow instead of an 87°?

A 45° elbow is suitable for gentler changes of direction, bypassing smaller obstacles, or creating a lateral route shift in a pair with a second 45° elbow - for a more significant change of direction (for example a transition from a vertical to a horizontal route) an 87° elbow is used.

Can the 45° elbow be used on its own, or must it always be used in a pair?

It is used on its own when the route only needs to be slightly deflected in one direction, for example when connecting to an angled outlet - it is used in a pair when creating a lateral shift (offset) of the route when bypassing an obstacle with a return to the original direction.

What is the difference in pressure loss between a 45° and 87° elbow?

Due to its gentler angle of direction change, the 45° elbow has a lower pressure loss than the 87° elbow; exact pressure loss values for individual components are part of the manufacturer's technical documentation and are taken into account by the designer when planning the overall route.

Is the 45° elbow also suitable for connecting an angled roof passage?

Yes, the 45° elbow is commonly used in practice precisely for connecting a vertical or horizontal route to an angled outlet through the roof, where the exact connection angle depends on the roof slope and the type of roof passage used.

Does using a 45° elbow instead of an 87° affect the overall length of the route?

Yes, for the same lateral shift, a route with 45° elbows in a pair generally requires a somewhat longer straight section between the elbows than a solution with a sharper 87° elbow - exact dimensions are addressed by the flue gas route design.

Is the material of the 45° elbow the same as that of the 87° elbow?

Yes, it is the same polypropylene (PP) certified for operation with condensing technology; only the geometry of the direction change angle differs.

Can I order 45° elbows in a larger quantity for a more complex route?

Yes, you choose the number of pieces according to the needs of your specific project - for more complex routing with multiple obstacles to bypass, several pieces may be needed.

Can the 45° elbow be combined in one route together with an 87° elbow?

Yes, it is common to combine elbows with different angles within one route as needed - for example an 87° elbow at the base of a vertical route and 45° elbows for finer direction corrections in the horizontal section.

Is a specific orientation required when installing the 45° elbow?

Yes, the orientation of the elbow must correspond to the direction of deflection according to the route design - incorrect orientation could mean that the route does not point exactly to the planned connection or outlet point.

What is the service life of the 45° elbow under normal operation?

With correct installation and regular inspections, the service life of the polypropylene components of the DN 200 PP system is comparable to the service life of the ecoCRAFT exclusiv boiler itself, i.e. usually many years of trouble-free operation.
