Vaillant Elbow 87°, Ø 200 mm
Code: 0020095553Product detailed description
87° elbow Ø 200 mm is an original directional component of the Vaillant DN 200 PP flue system without an inspection/cleaning opening. It is used to change the direction of the flue route by 87° at points where inspection access is provided by another component of the route (for example, a straight inspection piece or an inspection elbow located elsewhere according to the project), so a simpler and more cost-effective elbow without this extra function is sufficient at that particular point.
The Vaillant DN 200 PP flue system is an original component system for the removal of flue gases from large-capacity condensing boilers of the ecoCRAFT exclusiv range (and, in some projects, also from cascade assemblies of several Vaillant condensing boilers connected to a common flue collector). It is a single-wall plastic pipe made of durable polypropylene (PP), which, thanks to the low flue gas temperature of condensing technology (typically up to approx. 80°C), is a fully valid and more cost-effective alternative to metal stainless steel flues used with older atmospheric or low-efficiency heat sources. The 87° angle is the most common direction change when transitioning between a vertical and horizontal section of the route - its slight deviation from exactly 90° improves flue gas flow and reduces pressure losses compared to a sharp right-angle elbow, which is common design practice in condensing technology systems.
Technical characteristics
- Direction change angle - 87°
- Material - polypropylene (PP), resistant to flue gas condensate
- Nominal diameter - DN 200, for the ecoCRAFT exclusiv system
- Design - without inspection/cleaning opening, purely a directional component
- Manufacturer's order number - 0020095553
- Joint type - socket connection with sealing ring, compatible with other DN 200 PP components
- Typical use - direction changes in the route away from the main inspection points (e.g. bypassing an obstacle, passing through a wall)
Installation and use in the flue route
The 87° elbow is used in the route wherever a change of direction of the flue is needed, but simultaneous inspection access is not required at that specific point - for example when bypassing a structural obstacle, when passing through a wall into another room, or as an additional direction change alongside the main inspection elbow located at the base of the vertical route. It is installed with a socket connection with a sealing ring, in the same way as other components of the DN 200 PP system. The exact placement and number of elbows in the route is determined by the flue gas route project prepared for the specific model and output of the ecoCRAFT exclusiv boiler, or for the given cascade assembly - installation should always be carried out by a professionally qualified company authorised to install flue gas systems.
Compatibility and system integration
The elbow is fully compatible with other components of the DN 200 PP system listed in the overview table below - straight pieces, extensions, spacer brackets, and inspection elements. If you need inspection/cleaning access at the same point of the route, choose an 87° inspection elbow with an integrated opening instead. Like other components in this range, the elbow is not interchangeable with components of other diameters of Vaillant flue systems, such as DN 110/160 mm or DN 130 mm - always check the exact diameter of your boiler's route before ordering. If you are unsure about the correct type of component, we will gladly advise you based on the model and output of your ecoCRAFT exclusiv boiler.
Pressure losses and the effect of the elbow angle on flue gas flow
Every change of direction in the flue system's route represents a certain resistance to the flowing flue gases, which in technical practice is expressed as the pressure loss of the given element. In general, the sharper the angle of direction change, the higher the pressure loss - an 87° elbow thus represents greater flow resistance than a gentler 45° or 30° elbow, but significantly less resistance than a theoretical sharp 90° elbow with an unadjusted cross-section would represent.
This is precisely why the design of modern flue systems for condensing technology favours an angle of 87° instead of a mathematically exact 90° - it is a proven compromise between the need to change the direction of the route by almost a right angle (for example when transitioning from a vertical shaft to a horizontal run towards the boiler) and the effort to minimise the additional flow resistance, which would otherwise have to be compensated for by a more powerful and noisier boiler fan.
When designing the route, it is therefore recommended to plan the smallest necessary number of direction changes and, where possible, to prefer gentler angles (45° or 30°) over the sharper 87° elbow, as long as space conditions allow. For ecoCRAFT exclusiv boilers with a built-in powerful flue gas fan, the usual number of elbows in a standard installation has only a negligible effect on overall efficiency; however, for very long or complex routes with many direction changes, it is recommended to have the total pressure resistance of the route calculated by a designer to verify that it remains within the limits allowed by the boiler manufacturer.
In cascade boiler rooms, where several ecoCRAFT exclusiv boilers share a common flue collector, the pressure losses of the individual connection branches are calculated together with the pressure loss of the main collecting route - the designer must therefore take into account not only the number and type of elbows at each individual boiler, but also how these branches meet in the common collector, so that even and safe flue gas removal is maintained from all connected heat sources simultaneously.
Although a single elbow represents only a small share of the overall route resistance in terms of pressure loss, their sum in more complex routing can be significant - it is therefore worthwhile, from the very beginning of designing the flue system, to aim for the most direct and simplest possible routing between the boiler and the flue outlet point, which also reduces the total number of components needed and thus the material costs.
Maintenance, service and inspection
The elbow itself, without an inspection opening, does not require direct maintenance, but its condition is checked indirectly - during the annual inspection of the flue gas route by a professionally qualified person, the patency and condition of adjacent elbows is also verified through the nearest inspection access points on the route. If a problem is suspected (for example an unusual sound of flue gas flow or an odour around the route), a service technician should be contacted, who can assess the condition of this elbow through the nearest inspection opening without completely dismantling it. If a complete replacement is necessary, the elbow is simply pulled out of the socket joints on both sides and replaced with a new original component of the same diameter and angle.
Why choose an original Vaillant component
Where inspection access is not required at a given point of the route, a simple 87° elbow represents a more cost-effective choice than an inspection elbow of the same angle - you save part of the material costs without any compromise in the functionality or safety of the route. The original Vaillant component has a precisely defined angle and diameter corresponding to the certification of the entire ecoCRAFT exclusiv system, which guarantees correct flue gas flow and preserves the warranty on both the boiler and the flue gas route. As a verified supplier of original Vaillant components (WINTNER s.r.o.), we can guarantee the origin and quality of every elbow supplied.

Frequently asked questions
Frequently asked questions - Vaillant Elbow 87°, Ø 200 mm
When should an elbow without inspection be used instead of an inspection elbow?
When inspection/cleaning access at that section of the route is already provided by another component according to the flue gas route project - for example a nearby straight inspection piece or an inspection elbow located elsewhere on the route.
Is there a significant price difference between an elbow with inspection and without it?
Yes, an inspection elbow is more expensive due to its additional construction with a sealed cover - a simple elbow without inspection is therefore the more cost-effective choice wherever inspection access is not needed at that point.
How many 87° elbows does a typical flue route usually contain?
The number depends on the specific routing - a simple route may have only one or two elbows when transitioning from the vertical to the horizontal section, while more complex routes bypassing obstacles may contain several elbows according to the project.
Can I use an 87° elbow instead of a 45° or 30° elbow?
No, the individual angles are not interchangeable without modifying the route project - the choice of a specific elbow angle is based on the exact geometric solution of the route according to the flue gas route project.
Does the number of elbows in the route affect the draught and efficiency of the boiler?
Every change of direction represents a slight additional pressure resistance, which is why the flue gas route project aims to design the route with the smallest necessary number of elbows - however, the ecoCRAFT exclusiv boiler is designed with sufficient fan power reserve for the usual number of direction changes in standard installations.
Is the elbow material resistant to the flue gas temperatures of a condensing boiler?
Yes, the polypropylene used in the DN 200 PP system is certified for operation with condensing technology, including contact with acidic flue gas condensate at normal operating temperatures.
Can an elbow be added additionally if the routing changed during construction?
Yes, if the route is accessible, an additional elbow can be added or the routing adjusted - we recommend always consulting such a change with the flue gas route designer and carrying it out through a professionally qualified installation company.
Is there also a version of this elbow with a different angle if 87° does not suit me?
Yes, in our offer for the DN 200 PP system you will also find elbows with an angle of 45° and 30°, which represent a gentler change of direction - the choice of a specific angle is always based on the geometry of your specific route and the recommendations of the flue gas route designer.
Does the elbow need to be lubricated or the seal treated in any way during installation?
The manufacturer generally recommends using a suitable installation aid when assembling the socket joint, to facilitate the insertion of the sealing ring without damaging it - the exact procedure can be found in the installation manual for the system, or your installation company can advise you.
