Detailed information

Product detailed description

Vaillant flue extension 0.5 m, Ø 110 mm (shaft system)

This single-wall pipe with a length of 0.5 m is designed for the so-called shaft system of flue gas discharge, where flue gases are routed through a single Ø 110 mm pipe placed in an existing vertical building shaft or chimney, while combustion air for the boiler is drawn from the free annular space between the pipe and the shaft walls. Unlike the concentric Ø 110/160 mm system (where air and flue gases are carried by a single coaxial pipe), here the combustion air flows outside the pipe itself, directly in the shaft space – therefore this part is used exclusively in combination with an airtight sealed shaft with an external air supply at its bottom or top section, according to the project design.

The part is combined with other lengths (0.5 m and 1.0 m) and directional components to achieve the exact length of the vertical route in the shaft, with transition and support components connected at the top and bottom of the assembly for connection to the boiler and to the shaft outlet, respectively.

Vaillant Ø 110 mm shaft system (LAS)

The single-wall Ø 110 mm pipe is designed for the so-called shaft flue gas system (also commonly referred to by the abbreviation LAS – an air-flue gas system via a shaft), where flue gases are discharged through a single pipe placed in an existing masonry or prefabricated shaft/chimney, while combustion air for the boiler is drawn from the free annular space between this pipe and the shaft walls. This type of connection is used mainly for larger Vaillant gas condensing boilers (higher-output ecoTEC plus, ecoCRAFT exclusiv, ecoVIT exclusiv) installed in apartment buildings, boiler rooms and plant rooms, where a vertical building shaft is available and it is not desirable to run a separate concentric system through the façade.

The pipe is made of polypropylene (PP) with high resistance to condensate and acidic flue gas components (class W according to EN 14471), temperature class T120, pressure class P1. Joints are made using a locking socket system with a rubber seal, which ensures reliable gas-tightness on vertical and slightly inclined runs in the shaft. Since the system operates in both negative and positive pressure modes depending on the boiler type, every component must be from the certified Vaillant range – combining it with non-original parts from other manufacturers is not permitted and violates the CE certification conditions of the whole assembly as well as the boiler warranty.

Comparison of systems with and without an existing shaft

Besides the concentric (double-wall) systems Ø 60/100, 80/125 and 110/160 mm, Vaillant also offers a single-wall Ø 110 mm solution for shaft (LAS) installation, which includes this part. While concentric systems carry both flue gases and combustion air in a single coaxial pipe and are suitable especially where the route runs through a façade or free space without an existing shaft, the single-wall shaft system uses an existing building shaft as a natural air duct around the flue gas pipe. The choice between the two approaches depends on the layout of the specific building – in renovations with an available original chimney shaft, the shaft system is usually the structurally simpler and cheaper option, while in new buildings without such a shaft, the concentric system is almost always chosen instead.

Compatibility

The 0.5 m Ø 110 mm extension is designed exclusively for the Vaillant shaft (LAS) flue gas system, where flue gases are carried by this single-wall pipe and combustion air flows freely in the space around it within an existing building shaft. It is used with the same boiler models as the concentric Ø 110/160 mm system (higher-output ecoTEC plus, ecoCRAFT exclusiv, ecoVIT exclusiv), but differs in the method of combustion air supply – these two systems should not be combined without a transition part specifically designed for this purpose.

Typical usage scenarios

This short part is used for fine adjustment of the exact length of the vertical route in the shaft, when the remaining distance after combining longer extensions (1.0 m) does not correspond to a whole multiple – the 0.5 m variant allows precise adjustment to the required height without any need for on-site cutting of the pipe.

How to choose between the shaft and concentric system

Choose the Ø 110 mm shaft system (this part) when the building has a suitable existing vertical building shaft with a defined combustion air supply – typically in renovations of apartment buildings with an original chimney structure. If no such shaft is available, or the route is to run through the façade, the choice is the Ø 110/160 mm concentric system, where a single pipe carries both flue gases and combustion air without the need for an existing shaft.

Installation and use

The 0.5 m extension is inserted into the vertical route in the shaft using the same bayonet lock with seal as in the concentric system. During installation, it is necessary to:

  • verify that the shaft meets the requirements for combustion air supply (free, unobstructed space, sufficient cross-section around the pipe, airtight separation from other areas of the building according to the project),
  • continuously stabilize the pipe in the shaft using spacer holders or clamps so that a free cross-section for air flow is maintained all around,
  • maintain the minimum slope towards the boiler for condensate drainage,
  • before commissioning, check the tightness and functionality of the air supply through the shaft according to the installation manual for the specific boiler model,
  • keep access to the inspection elements of the assembly (inspection T-piece, inspection section) in the lower part of the shaft for regular chimney sweep inspections.

Safety notices

Installation of the shaft (LAS) flue gas system requires, in addition to a professional installation company, a prior assessment of the structural condition and suitability of the shaft by an authorized technician – an incorrectly dimensioned or leaking combustion air supply through the shaft may endanger the safe operation of the boiler. Use only original Vaillant parts of the corresponding diameter; combination with non-original parts or unauthorized modification (such as cutting the pipe) is not permitted and violates the certification of the whole assembly as well as the boiler warranty. After installation or any intervention in the route, a check of the tightness and functionality of the air supply is required before putting the boiler into operation.

Maintenance and care

We recommend checking the flue system at least once a year during regular boiler servicing – especially the tightness of joints, the passability of condensate drainage (if part of the assembly), and mechanical fastening along the entire route. External plastic parts (roof terminals, wall sleeves) should be visually inspected after the winter season for possible mechanical damage caused by ice or wind. Under normal operation, the inside of the pipes does not become fouled with deposits the way traditional solid fuel chimneys do, but the inspection elements in the assembly (inspection bends, inspection sections, T-pieces) are precisely there so that a service technician can easily look inside the pipe during inspection and clean it if necessary without having to dismantle the entire route.

For boilers with a longer flue route, we recommend keeping a simple service record of the date of the last tightness check and the condition of the inspection openings – this makes it easier to plan further chimney sweep inspections and provides an overview in case of a warranty claim or property sale.

Why buy this part at Atria.sk

We offer exclusively original Vaillant parts with 100% compatibility with this brand's flue systems – no universal replacements of questionable quality, which could compromise the gas-tightness of the whole assembly or void the boiler warranty. Goods are usually in stock or quickly available from the supplier, so the completion of a boiler room installation or a service intervention is not delayed by a single missing part. If you are unsure which exact part you need for your assembly, we are happy to advise you by phone or e-mail – just provide the boiler model and the length of the flue route you need to bridge.

We normally process orders within one business day and dispatch in-stock goods immediately. If you are not sure which exact part your project requires (for example when combining several lengths and elbows into one route), we are happy to help you choose the correct assembly before ordering – just send us a floor plan or a photo of the installation site along with the boiler model.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between this part and the Ø 110/160 mm extension?

This Ø 110 mm extension is single-wall and is used in the shaft (LAS) system, where air flows freely in the shaft space around the pipe. The Ø 110/160 mm pipe, on the other hand, is double-wall (concentric) and carries both air and flue gases in a single coaxial assembly without needing an existing shaft.

Can this pipe also be used outside a shaft, for example on a façade?

No, the single-wall Ø 110 mm system is certified exclusively for use inside a sealed building shaft with a defined combustion air supply – outside a shaft (for example on an open façade), the concentric Ø 60/100, 80/125 or 110/160 mm system must be used instead.

How is this pipe combined with the 0.5 m or 1.0 m length?

Individual lengths (0.5 m and 1.0 m) are freely combined with each other using the bayonet lock, just as in the concentric system, to achieve the exact required height of the vertical route in the shaft.

Does the shaft need to be modified in any way before installation?

Yes, the shaft must be checked before installation and, if necessary, modified so that it meets the requirements for cross-section, airtightness from other areas of the building, and external air supply according to the project documentation and the boiler's installation manual.

Who can assess the suitability of an existing shaft for this system?

The suitability of the shaft is assessed by an authorized designer or inspection technician/chimney sweep in cooperation with the installation company, before ordering the specific assembly parts.

Can this extension also be used outside a shaft, for example inside a plant room?

No, the single-wall Ø 110 mm system is certified only for operation inside a sealed building shaft with a defined combustion air supply – outside a shaft, there is a risk of uncontrolled air access and flue gas leakage into the room, so the concentric system must be used outside a shaft.

How does this pipe connect to Ø 110/160 mm system parts?

It does not connect directly – it is a different system with a different air supply principle. The transition between the concentric and shaft systems is handled by a specialized transition/connecting part, which is chosen according to the specific project.

Does condensate drainage need to be handled differently in the shaft system compared to the concentric system?

The condensate drainage principle is the same – by sloping the pipe towards the boiler or the condensate collection point; the only difference is that in the shaft system, air does not flow in close proximity to the pipe, but freely within the shaft space.

Does the shaft system require a different condensate drainage route than the concentric system?

The principle is the same – condensate drains by the slope of the pipe towards the boiler or the collection point; the condensate drainage piping remains part of the boiler, not of the shaft pipe itself.

Can the 0.5 m length also be combined with parts longer than 1.0 m from this range?

Yes, if longer variants of the same diameter for the shaft system are available, they can be freely combined with this 0.5 m part using the same bayonet lock.

Is the consent of the building manager required to use a shared shaft for this system?

Yes, since it involves an intervention in the common parts of the building, using an existing building shaft for flue gas discharge usually requires the consent of the building manager or owners' association and an assessment by a professional technician/designer.

Is this pipe color-coded differently from the concentric system to prevent mix-ups during installation?

The parts of the single-wall shaft system have different dimensions and type designations from the Ø 110/160 mm concentric system, so a mix-up is practically impossible with careful checking of the type designation before installation.

Do I need a separate seal for this pipe, or is it included with the part?

The seal for the bayonet joint is included with the part from the factory, and does not need to be ordered or installed separately.
