Detailed information

Product detailed description

Vaillant rosette, Ø 110 mm

The rosette (cover collar) with a diameter of 110 mm serves to neatly and tightly cover the spot where the flue pipe passes from the shaft through a wall or ceiling into the boiler room or utility room. It is a purely finishing component installed last, after the entire assembly has been definitively secured.

Vaillant LAS shaft flue gas exhaust system Ø 110 mm

This component is part of the original Vaillant shaft flue gas exhaust system (abbreviated LAS – from the German "Luft-Abgas-System"), used for high-capacity condensing boilers (typically higher-output ecoTEC exclusiv/pro/plus series and floor-standing ecoCRAFT exclusiv boilers, as well as equivalent Protherm models from the same manufacturing group). Unlike the common concentric flue (pipe within a pipe) used for small wall-mounted boilers, the shaft system routes flue gases through a single-wall pipe with a diameter of 110 mm inside an existing structural chimney shaft (most often an older masonry chimney no longer used for its original purpose), while combustion air is drawn in through the free space of the shaft around this pipe.

The advantage of this solution is that it does not require any new penetration through the facade or roof in addition to the existing shaft, and in multi-storey buildings it allows the exhaust to be routed to the required height without the need to build a new chimney. All components of the system are made of durable polypropylene (PP), which withstands long-term contact with the slightly acidic condensate produced during the operation of a condensing boiler, and are connected using a simple socket-to-socket push-fit system with an integrated sealing ring, without the need for gluing or additional sealing.

Function of the rosette in the system

While the tightness of the flue gas path itself is ensured by the push-fit joints of the individual components with rubber sealing rings, the rosette solves a separate, at first glance less noticeable detail – a neat and dust-tight cover of the opening in the building structure (wall, ceiling, partition) through which the pipe passes from the enclosed shaft space into the living or utility space. Without it, a visible gap with unsightly masonry finishing would remain around the pipe, or space for dust to penetrate from the shaft structure into the room.

The part is supplied in white, which corresponds to the common colour standard of utility rooms and most boiler room interiors.

Installing the rosette

The rosette is installed on the completed, definitively secured flue pipe – it is slid over the free end of the pipe and moved up to the structural penetration, where its edge rests against the surface of the wall or ceiling and covers the gap around the penetration. Most versions do not require any tools or fixing material; if additional stability is needed, the rosette can be supplemented with a spot of sealant suitable for the given surface (but not directly onto the flue pipe itself, whose joints remain handled exclusively by the push-fit system with a sealing ring).

Step-by-step installation procedure

  1. Wait until the entire flue assembly, including the building work around the penetration, is definitively completed and secured.
  2. Slide the rosette over the free end of the pipe at the penetration point (usually where it exits the shaft into the boiler room).
  3. Move it up to the surface of the wall or ceiling so that its edge fully covers the gap around the pipe.
  4. If additional stability is needed, add a spot of sealant suitable for the given wall or ceiling surface, not directly onto the joints of the pipe itself.
  5. Visually check that the rosette sits evenly around its entire circumference without a visible gap.

Practical example

When finishing the boiler room in a family house after replacing an old atmospheric boiler with a condensing one, the original structural penetration through the ceiling between the basement and the utility room appeared, after installing the new flue, as an untidy gap with visible plaster remains. After sliding a white rosette onto the completed, already definitively secured pipe, this gap was neatly covered and the room looked noticeably tidier after completion, without any further building work.

How to choose the right location and moment for installation

Always install the rosette as the last step, after definitively verifying the tightness and functionality of the entire flue assembly – this will prevent it from having to be removed again later due to additional route adjustments. Choose a position on the pipe so that, once slid on, it exactly covers the structural opening in the wall or ceiling without blocking access to nearby inspection openings or joints that may require future inspection. If there are several visible penetrations on the same route (for example, passage through an intermediate floor as well as entry into the boiler room), consider using a rosette at each one for a uniform, tidy appearance of the entire visible part of the installation.

Where exactly to use the rosette

  • at the point where the flue exits the shaft into the boiler room or utility room,
  • at any other structural penetration (intermediate floor, partition) where it is desirable to cover the gap around the pipe,
  • as a finishing aesthetic element when renovating an older installation where the original penetration was not covered in any way.

Compatibility and use within the system

The part belongs to a closed range of original Vaillant accessories for the Ø 110 mm shaft flue gas exhaust and is intended for combination with other components of the same range – extensions (0.5 m, 1.0 m and 2.0 m), elbows of various angles, inspection pieces, a support elbow, spacer brackets, fixing bands and a wall rosette. It is used primarily when installing or replacing high-capacity condensing Vaillant boilers (ecoTEC exclusiv series, higher-output ecoTEC pro/plus versions and floor-standing ecoCRAFT exclusiv boilers), as well as corresponding Protherm models (Panther Condens, Tiger Condens, Bizon Condens in higher outputs) – Vaillant and Protherm belong to the same manufacturing group, so parts of the exhaust system are commonly identical; however, always verify the exact type and size of the connection in the installation manual for the specific boiler.

Before ordering, we recommend having our customer service or an installation company prepare a simple assembly design based on the height and diameter of your existing shaft – the correct number and combination of components (length of straight sections, number and angle of elbows, number of spacer brackets and fixing bands) is key to the safe and standard-compliant operation of the entire exhaust system.

Shaft flue gas exhaust systems of this type are designed and assessed in Slovakia and the Czech Republic according to the STN EN 1443 (Chimneys – General requirements) and STN EN 14471 (Chimneys – System chimneys with plastic flue liners) standards, which, among other things, define the designation of the so-called temperature, pressure and resistance classes of components (for example, condensate resistance class "W" – wet operation, typical precisely for condensing boilers). Original Vaillant components of this range correspond to the relevant classes stated in the production documentation and installation manual of the specific boiler with which the system is supplied – this compatibility is precisely why it is recommended to use only components from a single closed range for a shaft exhaust system, rather than combining them with products from other manufacturers.

Where to use the rosette in the assembly compared to other components

Unlike other components of the range (extensions, elbows, inspection pieces, spacer brackets and fixing bands), which handle the functional flue gas path itself inside the shaft, the rosette is the only component intended for the visible, finishing part of the installation in the living or utility space – it is therefore always installed last, after verifying the functionality and tightness of the rest of the assembly.

Maintenance and service inspections

The polypropylene shaft flue gas exhaust system is low-maintenance, but as part of the flue gas path it is, like a masonry chimney, subject to regular inspection by a chimney sweep in accordance with applicable regulations and intervals set by the boiler manufacturer and local chimney inspection regulations. During inspection, the tightness of the joints, the patency of the pipe (deposits, possible foreign objects), the condition of the sealing rings in the push-fit joints, and the functionality of condensate drainage from the lower part of the system are checked in particular. Parts made of PP are usually not cleaned with aggressive solvents – mechanical removal of deposits and rinsing with water, or a mild detergent, is sufficient.

The condensate produced during the operation of a condensing boiler is slightly acidic (typically in the range of pH approximately 3 to 5, depending on the type of gas burned and the operating state of the boiler), so the entire system route is designed with a slope towards the collection point and with condensate drainage either directly into the boiler (where it is usually neutralised or drained into the sewer via a siphon), or into a separate collection point at the base of the shaft. During regular inspection, therefore, also pay attention to whether the condensate is actually draining freely and not standing at lower points of the route, which could indicate an incorrect slope or a blockage in some section.

Safety notes

This is a purely finishing, non-functional component in terms of the tightness of the flue gas path itself – its absence does not endanger the safety of the boiler's operation, but leaves an unsightly and less hygienic gap around the structural penetration.

Why choose an original finishing component

The original rosette is dimensionally precisely matched to the 110 mm diameter of the system used and matches the colour of other original components – ensuring a neat and uniform appearance of the entire visible part of the installation.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the rosette necessary for the proper function of the flue gas exhaust, or is it just for aesthetics?

In terms of the tightness of the flue gas path itself, the decisive factor is the push-fit joint with rubber sealing between the individual components; the rosette primarily serves an aesthetic and supplementary sealing function at the level of the structural penetration, not at the level of the pipe itself.

Can the rosette be installed additionally on an already completed installation?

Yes, since it is only slid onto the free end of the pipe, it can be added later as well, without the need to disassemble the rest of the assembly, provided access to the relevant end of the pipe is available.

What colours is the rosette available in?

This version is supplied in white, which commonly corresponds to the standard appearance of utility rooms.

Does the rosette need to be glued or fixed?

Usually not, it rests freely against the surface around the penetration; if additional stability is needed, a spot of sealant suitable for the given wall or ceiling surface can be used.

Can it be used for a diameter other than 110 mm?

No, the size of the rosette corresponds exactly to the 110 mm diameter of this shaft system range.

How many rosettes do I need for one assembly?

Usually one for the main penetration into the boiler room, plus possibly additional ones at any other visible structural penetrations along the route that you want to cover aesthetically.

Do I have to install the rosette right after the shell construction is completed?

No, since it is only slid onto the completed pipe, it can be installed at any later time, for example even after the final painting work in the room.

Does the rosette also cover larger irregularities around the penetration?

For larger irregularities, we recommend first structurally levelling the area around the penetration (plastering, finishing); the rosette is intended to cover a normal installation gap, not to bridge significant structural imperfections.

Can the rosette be painted a different colour?

We do not recommend it, since paint can affect the material and lifespan of the part; for a different appearance, we recommend primarily choosing an available colour version, if one is offered.

Can the same rosette be used for a passage through a sloped roof?

No, separate roof flashings with a different design adapted to the roof slope are used for roof penetrations; the rosette is intended for a standard wall or ceiling penetration indoors.

Is one rosette needed for each structural penetration, or only for the main entry into the boiler room?

We recommend using it at every visible structural penetration that you want to cover aesthetically; the main penetration into the boiler room is the most common, but not the only possible location of use.

Is the rosette included in the boiler's standard package, or does it always need to be purchased separately?

For high-capacity condensing boilers with a shaft exhaust system, the rosette is usually ordered separately as part of the exhaust system accessories, since its exact placement depends on the specific building layout.
