The inspection elbow combines two functions in a single part – a 87° change of direction (just like a standard elbow) and, at the same time, a removable inspection cap allowing inspection and cleaning of the inside of the pipe at the point of direction change. From an operational point of view, points of direction change are often the most critical – it is precisely in elbows that condensate or minor deposits can accumulate during long-term operation, which is why having inspection access right at this point is a practical solution that reduces the number of separate inspection parts needed in the assembly.

The part is used in the same places as a standard 87° elbow (transition from a horizontal to a vertical section), with the difference that it is chosen where operational requirements or applicable legislation require inspection access exactly at the point of direction change – for example at the outlet from the boiler into a shaft or before entering a roof terminal.

Vaillant Ø 110/160 mm Flue Gas Exhaust System

The pipe system with a diameter of Ø 110/160 mm belongs to the family of Vaillant concentric (coaxial) flue systems designed for high-capacity gas condensing boilers with higher rated output – typically the ecoTEC plus VU 806/5-5, 1006/5-5 and 1206/5-5 range (output range approx. 80–120 kW), the modular ecoCRAFT exclusiv and ecoVIT exclusiv assemblies, as well as cascade connections of multiple boilers to a common flue gas collector. If you have enough space in the project and prefer separate elements (for example for easier future replacement of just one of them), you can achieve the same function using a combination of a separate 87° elbow and a separate inspection part placed next to each other.

Installation and Use

The inspection elbow is installed at the point of direction change in the same way as a standard 87° elbow, with emphasis on permanent accessibility of the inspection cap:

  • when choosing the orientation of the elbow, select the position of the inspection cap so that it remains accessible after completion of construction work (suspended ceilings, cladding),
  • the elbow is inserted using a bayonet lock at both ends, in the same way as other system parts,
  • it is advisable to install a support element right after the elbow continuing in the vertical direction, to transfer the weight of the further pipe section to the building structure,
  • the inspection cap should remain closed during operation and should only be opened during service or chimney sweep inspection.

Safety Notices

Installation and connection of the condensing boiler flue system may only be carried out by an authorised and trained installation company with professional competence for gas appliances. An incorrectly assembled or leaking flue gas exhaust route can lead to flue gas leakage (including carbon monoxide) into living spaces, which poses a serious health risk. Use only original Vaillant parts of the corresponding diameter and certification – combining with parts from other manufacturers or of different diameters is not permitted and is in breach of the CE certification conditions of the entire assembly as well as the boiler warranty.
