Detailed information

Product detailed description

Design outlet, white (Vaillant recoVAIR, code 0020197693)

An aesthetic finishing element for ductwork in heat recovery ventilation systems – a round cover grille with a DN 125 mm connection and modern longitudinal perforation in white.

The white design outlet is the visible, aesthetic part of the Vaillant recoVAIR controlled ventilation system with heat recovery – in other words, the only component of the entire ductwork that is actually visible in the room's interior once construction is complete. While all other duct parts (pipes, elbows, connectors, distributors) are hidden within the ceiling, floor, or wall structure, it is the outlet that forms the interface between the hidden ductwork and the living space, which is why its design plays an important role in the overall appearance of the interior. This particular outlet is round, with a connection diameter of 125 mm and an outer diameter of the visible cover section of approximately 170 mm, and its surface features longitudinal perforation (the so-called "slotted hole" design) instead of classic round holes, giving it a more modern, cleaner look compared to the standard grille design.

Technical design

The outlet body is made of metal with a white coated surface (powder coating), which guarantees a long-lasting colour without yellowing and is resistant to regular cleaning with a damp cloth. The cover grille is attached to a rear mounting frame, which slides or screws into the duct end piece with a DN 125 mm connection built into the ceiling or wall (for example, an end piece with two 75/62 mm inlets, code 0020176832, or a similar simple end piece with a single inlet). The longitudinal slot-shaped perforation instead of round holes is not just an aesthetic feature – this type of perforation also slightly changes the character of the airflow exiting the outlet (dispersing the stream into a wider fan shape instead of narrow parallel streams), which, with proper placement of the outlet, contributes to a more even distribution of supplied air in the room and reduces the sensation of a direct draught near the outlet.

Air supply and extraction with a single type of outlet

This design outlet is suitable both for supplying fresh air into a room (living rooms, bedrooms, children's rooms, studies) and for extracting stale air from a room (bathrooms, toilets, kitchens, wardrobes) – in both cases the same type of cover grille is used, the only difference being the direction of airflow through it, which is determined by how it is connected within the ductwork, not by the outlet's construction itself. This makes it possible to use a uniform outlet design throughout an apartment or house without needing to distinguish between supply and extract elements based on their appearance, contributing to a consistent and clean overall interior impression.

Placement and installation

The outlet is installed onto the duct end piece (with a DN 125 mm connection) after all surface finishing work on the ceiling or wall has been completed – i.e. as one of the final steps in finishing the interior, shortly before final inspection or moving in. Installation involves inserting the outlet's mounting frame into the prepared connection and securing it (depending on the specific design, either with spring clips or screws through the mounting frame into the surrounding structure). Before installation, the protective cap that was placed on the duct end piece during previous construction work must be removed, and the inside of the duct must be checked to ensure it is not contaminated with dust or construction debris.

Maintenance and cleaning

As the only visible and easily accessible element of the entire ventilation ductwork, the design outlet is the first place where dust carried by the air becomes noticeable, especially on extract outlets in bathrooms or kitchens. We therefore recommend regularly cleaning the visible grille with a soft cloth or a vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment, at intervals of approximately once every 1 to 3 months depending on the type of room and intensity of use. In case of heavier soiling, the grille can be removed (depending on the specific mounting type) and washed with lukewarm water and a mild cleaning agent without abrasive components, which could damage the white surface finish. Thorough and regular cleaning of the visible grille also indirectly indicates the overall condition of the filtration in the recoVAIR unit itself – if the grille becomes noticeably dirtier faster than before, it may be a sign that the filter in the unit needs to be checked or replaced.

Aesthetic aspect and interior compatibility

The white version of this design outlet is universally compatible with most modern as well as classic interior styles, since white ceilings and most walls are standard in current construction. The longitudinal perforation instead of classic round holes appears more subtle and less "technical" than older grille designs, which is particularly appreciated by customers who value a minimalist or Scandinavian interior style, where technical elements of the house are visually suppressed as much as possible in favour of clean ceiling and wall lines. For customers requiring a different look (for example, a darker finish or a different type of perforation), we recommend consulting the availability of alternative colour and design variants within the Vaillant recoVAIR range.

Flow capacity and noise parameters

This design outlet with a DN 125 mm connection is dimensioned for the typical range of airflows occurring in living rooms within the recoVAIR system, i.e. roughly up to approximately 50 m³/h, while maintaining low noise levels and no sensation of draught near the outlet. For higher required flow rates (for example, in larger or combined rooms), either a combination of two branches with a dual-connection end piece (code 0020176832) can be used, or the use of multiple separate outlets distributed around the room can be considered, in order to achieve an even and quiet air supply or extraction without concentrating a high flow velocity at a single point.

Flow control at this outlet

The design outlet itself does not contain an adjustable control element for changing the airflow – its purpose is purely the aesthetic covering of the duct's end point and the dispersion of the airflow into the room. Setting and balancing the airflow between individual branches of the ductwork (so that each room receives exactly the amount of air designed for it) is carried out using separate control elements located closer to the distributor or directly within the body of certain other outlet designs – for example, using an airflow limiter (code 0020180827) fitted on the relevant branch upstream of this outlet. Balancing of the entire system should be carried out by a qualified technician when commissioning the recoVAIR unit, using flow measurement with an anemometer at each outlet.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Is this outlet also suitable as an extract outlet (for example, in a bathroom)?

Yes, the outlet's construction is the same for both air supply and extraction – the only difference is how the branch in question is connected within the overall ductwork (to the supply or extract side of the recoVAIR unit). When installing in a bathroom or other wet room, we recommend regularly wiping the metal body with the white coating dry to prevent long-term exposure of the surface finish to moisture.

Can this outlet also be mounted on a wall, not just on a ceiling?

Yes, the round design with a DN 125 mm connection is suitable for both ceiling and wall mounting, depending on where the duct end piece is located in the given room. The choice of position (ceiling or wall) is determined already at the ventilation design stage, according to the layout of the room and the investor's aesthetic preferences.

How often does the outlet need to be cleaned?

The recommended interval is approximately once every 1 to 3 months, depending on the type of room – for extract outlets in the kitchen or bathroom, more frequent cleaning may be advisable due to higher dust levels and air humidity, while for supply outlets in bedrooms a longer interval is generally sufficient.

Does this outlet regulate the amount of supplied air?

No, it is purely an aesthetic cover for the end point of the ductwork with no control function. Regulation and balancing of airflow between individual branches is ensured by separate control elements (such as an airflow limiter) located closer to the distributor, not directly within the outlet.

Are there other colour or design variants of this outlet available?

Within its recoVAIR design accessory range, Vaillant also offers alternative versions that differ in perforation type or colour finish. We recommend consulting our customer service for the exact current range of variants, depending on current availability from the manufacturer.

Difference compared to the standard cover grille design

Alongside this design outlet, Vaillant also offers a standard (basic) version of the cover grille for its recoVAIR system, featuring classic round perforation holes, which is generally cheaper but has a more utilitarian and "technical" visual appearance. The difference between the two variants is not in functionality (both versions have the same DN 125 mm connection and the same flow capacity), but purely in design and price. The design version with longitudinal perforation is generally chosen for representative or visible areas of the house (living room, entrance hall, bedroom), while the standard version is sometimes preferred in less exposed areas (utility room, pantry, garage), where aesthetics are not a priority and the investor can save on costs without compromising ventilation functionality.

Durability of the surface finish

The white surface finish of the outlet body is created using powder coating technology, which, compared to conventional wet painting, provides significantly higher resistance to mechanical scratching, impact marks, and long-term UV radiation (for outlets located near a window with direct sunlight). This technology also guarantees even surface coverage without drips or uneven coating thickness, which is particularly important on a perforated surface with numerous edges and openings, where a low-quality coating could peel or crack over time, especially around the perforation. With normal care (cleaning with a soft cloth without abrasive agents), the surface finish retains its original appearance for virtually the entire service life of the outlet.

Effect of perforation design on airflow dispersion

The shape and arrangement of the perforation holes in the outlet's cover grille is not merely an aesthetic detail, but has a real effect on how the airflow disperses into the room after leaving the outlet. Longitudinal (slot-shaped) openings, as featured on this design outlet, tend to disperse the airflow into a wider, flatter fan shape compared to round holes, which generate more separate, narrower air streams. A wider, flatter dispersion means the air mixes more quickly with the surrounding room air, reducing the sensation of a local draught in the immediate vicinity of the outlet – this is particularly important for outlets located low, near seating or sleeping level (for example, in wall-mounted installations in a bedroom near a bed).

Who this product is intended for

The design outlet is intended for all customers who, in addition to the functionality of a controlled ventilation system with heat recovery, also value the aesthetics of visible interior elements – primarily for new builds and renovations, where the investor or architect selects the surface elements of home technical systems with regard to the overall design of the space. Since this is the only visible element of the entire system, choosing a high-quality, aesthetically coordinated outlet significantly affects the overall impression of the controlled ventilation installation in the finished house or apartment.

Combination with other interior design elements

In projects with a higher standard of interior finishing, there is an increasing demand to coordinate visible ventilation elements (outlets) with other technical elements on the ceiling or wall – for example, with spotlights, ceiling-mounted speakers, or air conditioning unit grilles. The white version with fine longitudinal perforation is a popular choice for these reasons as well, since its neutral appearance blends well with a wide range of other white ceiling elements without appearing disruptive or overly technical. When planning the layout of visible ceiling elements, we recommend involving an architect or interior designer already at the design stage, so that the resulting layout appears intentional rather than random.

Practical experience from installations

Feedback from installation companies and end customers confirms that visible elements such as this outlet have the greatest influence on the subjective perception of the quality of an entire controlled ventilation installation, even though from a technical standpoint it is an equally important, though less "visible," component compared to, for example, a quality seal on a hidden duct joint. After construction is completed, investors mainly notice how the visible elements on the ceiling and walls look, which is why it is worth paying a little extra attention to this part of the product range and not neglecting it in favour of "invisible" savings in the hidden part of the ductwork.

Summary and package contents

The package contains one round design outlet with a white surface and longitudinal perforation, with a DN 125 mm connection, suitable for both air supply and extraction in the Vaillant recoVAIR system. This is an original aesthetic element directly from the manufacturer Vaillant, intended for the final finishing of the visible part of a controlled ventilation ductwork with heat recovery. When ordering, we recommend choosing the same type of outlet for all rooms within a single installation, so that the resulting interior appearance is uniform and aesthetically consistent throughout the apartment or house, and also considering an appropriate reserve of one or two extra pieces in case of future replacement due to mechanical damage.
