VAZ WD160 is an original outdoor (façade) cover with an integrated noise silencer for local heat recovery ventilation units Vaillant recoVAIR VAR 60/2 D and DW. The cover is fitted on the exterior side of the mounting tube and performs several functions at once: it protects the outlet against weather effects (rain, snow, wind), prevents insects from entering the air duct, and the integrated silencer significantly reduces the transmission of noise from outside (traffic, wind) into the interior of the room.

Technical description and function

The VAZ WD160 cover is made of durable, weather-resistant plastic in white colour, which is the standard façade colour and therefore visually blends in unobtrusively with the exterior of most family houses and residential buildings. The internal construction of the cover contains an acoustic silencer, which together with the VAZ mounting tube contributes to the overall standardised noise attenuation of the wall with the fitted unit at a level of 42 to 50 dB – meaning that noise from the street, traffic or weather effects does not penetrate through the opening for the ventilation unit into the room more significantly than through a normal wall without an opening.

The design of the cover is also engineered so as not to obstruct the free airflow required for the correct function of the recoVAIR unit at its maximum output of 60 m³/h, while maintaining protection against the entry of small insects and dirt into the air duct.

Installation

The outdoor cover VAZ WD160 is fitted on the exterior end of the VAZ mounting tube after it has been inserted into the core drilled hole in the perimeter wall, either before or after fitting the ventilation unit itself from the interior side. Placement on the façade and the influence of orientation

When choosing the exact location for fitting the cover on the façade, we recommend taking into account the direction of prevailing winds and rain (usually the western and north-western side is the most exposed to precipitation in Central European conditions), and if possible placing the outlet on a less exposed side of the façade, or under the roof eave, where the degree of direct rainwater ingress is lower. Maintenance and filters

The recoVAIR VAR 60/2 unit uses a pair of filters – one ISO Coarse 45% class on the supply (outdoor) air side and one ISO Coarse 30% class on the extract (indoor) air side. Depending on operating conditions (urban environment, pollen season, proximity to a busy road), the filters should be checked and replaced approximately 2 to 4 times a year; the display on the control panel or remote control will notify you when replacement is needed. Filter replacement is a maintenance-free operation without the need for service intervention – the filter cartridge is simply pulled out and replaced with a new one.

The ceramic heat storage exchanger is a maintenance-free component with no moving parts, which does not require cleaning or replacement during normal operation for the entire lifetime of the unit. We recommend having the fan checked once every few years during a regular service inspection of the heating/ventilation system, although it is a component designed for long-term maintenance-free operation.
