COMPUTHERM Q4Z zone controller

Since boilers are equipped with a connection for only one room thermostat, a zone controller is needed to divide the heating network into several zones, i.e. to control the zone valves and operate the boiler using several thermostats. The zone controller receives the switch-on signals of the thermostats, opens/activates the zone valves/pumps connected to the zone outputs  and starts the boiler.

The COMPUTHERM Q4Z 1 – 4 zone controller with an operating switch can ensure the control of a heating zone using a wired thermostat in such a way that individual zones can be operated independently of each other, but if necessary they can also be operated all at once. To control more than 4 heating zones we recommend using two or more zone controllers. In this case, the boiler control outputs must be connected to the boiler in parallel.

Any room thermostat with an operating switch can be connected to the zone controller, whose output relay load capacity is: 230V AC; min. 1A (inductive load 0.5A)

Frequently Asked Questions

• How exactly does a manual (simple) thermostat work? It measures the temperature at its installation location and, when it drops below the set value, closes a contact that activates the heat source (boiler, pump, radiator) - once the set temperature is reached, the contact opens again. Unlike programmable thermostats, it has no weekly or daily program; the temperature is set manually with a rotary or slide control.
• Where should the thermostat be placed? In a location that best represents the average room temperature - away from direct sunlight, drafts, radiators or other heat/cold sources that could distort the measurement.
• Must installation be carried out by an electrician? Connecting the thermostat to the electrical circuit of the heat source should be carried out by a person with electrical qualifications, since it involves work on the electrical wiring and load switching.
