Electric Heating Rod with Thermostat

During the transitional season, or an unexpected cold spell in the summer months, when the boiler isn't running and you'd like some warmth while spending time in the bathroom, an electric heating rod can help you out quickly and easily. By connecting it to a towel radiator you provide electric heating for it, giving you the pleasant warmth you'll certainly appreciate after stepping out of the bath or shower.

A solution for more than just a cold bathroom

The advantage of an electric heating rod is that it can be fitted to a heating body without needing a supply of heating pipes from the boiler. The design of the heating bodies ensures maximum heat transfer efficiency between the radiator itself and the surrounding space.

The electric heating rod is inserted directly into the towel radiator using a reducer. A special T-piece lets you combine the electric element with conventional heating water inside it. You can add a plug-in timer thermostat to the electric element, letting you set the temperature and control the heating time. Once the selected temperature is reached, the thermostat switches off automatically.  

The electric heating rod plugs into a standard 230-volt socket and is fitted to the towel rail via a half-inch thread. Besides the thermostat, the heating rod also has a rotary dial used to set the temperature of the heating water. A red LED runs around the rod to indicate that it is in operation. If you've just realised that a heating rod would come in handy for more than just the transitional season, but you're limited by the distance between the socket and the radiator, we can put your mind at ease. The maximum cable length of the heating rod extends up to 1.5 metres.

Electric heating rods are available in several power versions: from 150 up to 1200 W. To help you get your bearings, 600 W is fully sufficient for everyday use.

A favourite named the 600 W heating rod

The most popular type of electric heating rod is the 34 cm long rod with the aforementioned 600 W output. It is designed for towel radiators and meets the needs of ordinary households. When connecting the rod to a towel radiator, make sure the radiator is filled with water, or an antifreeze mixture, up to its upper edge. We do not recommend connecting the electric heating rod at the top of the radiator. Instead, the rod should always be connected to its lower part.

When connecting the heating rod to the radiator, you should also check the level of protection provided by its housing. This is expressed by the so-called IP code (from the English "international protection"). It indicates the resistance of an electrical appliance to the ingress of foreign objects or liquids. The IP code consists of two digits: the first indicates protection against dangerous contact and the ingress of foreign objects, the second indicates the level of protection against water ingress. The maximum possible protection level is IP68. For the electric heating rod, the protection level is IP 65.
