Product detailed description
A brass threaded socket connects two sections of pipe, or reduces/expands the connection between two different threads. Brass is a long-proven, standard material for threaded water and heating installations thanks to its corrosion resistance and reliable tightness when the joint is properly tightened.
Brass threaded reducing socket 1/2" x 3/8" FF is the most commonly used connector for steel heating pipework, for example under the boiler and in other heating installations.
Frequently asked questions
- How do I choose the correct fitting size? The thread size (e.g. 1/2", 3/4", 1") must exactly match the thread size of the pipe or fitting you are connecting to - designations such as FF (female-female), MF (male-female) and similar abbreviations in the name indicate the type of thread on each side of the fitting.
- What do the abbreviations FF and MF in the name mean? F (female, internal thread) and M (male, external thread) indicate the type of thread on that side of the fitting - for example "FF" means an internal thread on both sides, while "MF" means an external thread on one side and an internal thread on the other.
- Do I need to use a sealing material during installation? Yes, a sealing material (e.g. PTFE tape or hemp fibre with sealing paste) is normally used on threaded joints to ensure a perfectly tight seal - the thread alone, without sealant, will not seal reliably.
- Does the installation have to be carried out by a professional? A simple threaded connection can be handled by a competent DIYer with basic skills, but when working on an already functioning system (especially a gas or pressurised water/heating installation) we recommend calling in a plumber, who will also check the tightness of the joint after installation.
- What material and pressure class does this fitting have? It is made of brass, suitable for standard water and heating installations - exact nominal pressure and temperature values (where specified for the particular product) can be found in the technical parameters above.
